Summary: Yeo Hoon Min is not easy, or so he thinks.
Yeo Hoon Min was not easy.
At the very least, he himself was convinced thoroughly of the above statement.
That small bit of self-assurance was ruthlessly shattered to pieces on an inky night where none of the stars were shining through, right smack in the middle of the pedestrian crossing.
Yeo Hoon Min learnt two lessons that fateful day.
One, that he should really take time to practice his once excellent self-defense moves.
Two, that the headaches from chloroform was something he did not want to mess with again.
As he sat in a white-washed wooden chair in an empty white room, he recalled the exact moment in time when he had been taken.
He had been heading to the nearest Starbucks© for a quick drink before heading to the night club he worked at as a bartender. And he would very much like to inform everyone that he was an excellent technician(it’s the classy word for hacker, he reckons), thank you very much, and had absolutely no choice but to work there. Right round the corner before the club, in the middle of crossing the road on an empty street, a suspicious black van had skidded up towards him, and the next thing he felt was a soft cloth wrapped round his nose and mouth before he blacked out.
The door swung open silently, and the sudden motion jerked him out of the memory, as two men clad in crisp and sharp suits walked in. As the taller turned to face him, Hoon Min’s eyes widened at the startling beautiful features, before wincing as the other man dropped the file he was carrying. Any form of intimidation of the two men vaporized the instant the taller had turned to kick the other in the shin, all the while reprimanding,
“I told you to be careful, Kevin. Now look, he isn’t scared of us anymore! It’s all your fault!” He ended off with an adorable pout did he just think adorable? And instantly lost the cliche serial killer aura he had been giving off.
The other man, named Kevin, from what Hoon Min had heard, finally turned around holding a gun loosely in his right hand. Kevin had puffed his cheeks up in indignation, and retorted back to the handsome one all sorts of unprintable words, and the thoughts running through Hoon Min’s mind was relatively similar to: ‘What is the world coming to? Baby-faced kids becoming killers?”
“Urgh! You deal with this, Vinnie, I don’t even underst…” The taller trailed off as he stalked off to the far end of the room, sulking.
His partner sighed heavily and headed to a wall and quietly took out a white foldable table. By this time Hoon Min was raising both eyebrows at the unexpected actions of his apparent kidnappers, and was greatly confused. Weren’t kidnappers supposed to demand that your parents pay ransom? If they were going to do that, they would be sadly disappointed. His parents had died a few years ago, and he had been wandering the streets until an old man had taken pity on him.
“Okay, listen. You’re here because we need your skills, and I mean hacking, not making beverages to get people drunk though we may need that sometime too. The rules are simple - we want your loyalty. You can do whatever shit you want, but anytime we need you, you’re to appear. By the way, just to enlighten you, this is the mafia, and if you refuse this invitation, you will have just fast-forwarded a number of decades to your coffin.”
Hoon Min blinked.
The mafia seemed interesting, and he seriously cannot believe that he is actually considering it, but a change to his mundane life would be cool.
“Okay.”
Apparently his kidnappers thought not.
“Okay? Are you sure you’re in your right mind?” Kevin had blurted out, before hurriedly composing himself.
Hoon Min wanted to ask himself the same question. It had come to the point that he was thinking that working with this Kevin might actually provide himself with daily entertainment.
“Well, I don’t really have a choice, do I?” He deadpanned in response.
“Come on, Kevin, he already agreed. Stop wasting time here.” The sulky one had finally stood up, and fished out of his pockets a piece of black cloth. Hoon Min had spent a few seconds wondering what it was for, before something covered his eyes. Oh.

A few minutes into the ride had Hoon Min dozing off, until he fell asleep in the backseat. When he finally opened his eyes after knocking his head against the seatbelt buckle, he sat up, rubbing his head ruefully until the door opened and he was unceremoniously dragged out, nearly tripping over his feet. He was led quietly up 2 flights of stairs, and a dizzying maze of corridors before they removed the blindfold.
“This is your room. The only things we took were your laptop and that book that the old man insisted we take for you.”
Hoon Min stared after the two retreating backs. The old man had wanted them to take the book? What book? How on earth did the old man know the two men? Eyeing the dusty book lying on the desk warily, he hurried forward and flipped it open.
Falling back on the bed after the first page, Hoon Min read on.
It wasn’t long before tears fell and stained the yellowing pages.

It was Kevin who came by to get Hoon Min for breakfast the next day. Blearily rubbing his swollen eyes, he had wanted to refuse, before yawning and deciding that his stomach was desperate for food. Following Kevin sleepily, he didn’t realise he had passed a few people watching him from the entrance of the dining room. It wasn’t until the welcoming scent of pancakes invaded his nostrils that he paid a slight margin more of attention to them, and immediately started violently.
Opposite him sporting identical smirks were the tall man from yesterday whose name he still didn’t know, and two others dressed in smart casual white collar shirts and worn jeans. He stayed silent, until the tall man from yesterday who had, sadly for Hoon Min, regained his serial killer aura, introduced each of them.
“The name’s KiSeop, Lee KiSeop. This short guy here is Shin Soohyun, and he’s Eli. The one behind you is Kevin, as I’m sure you know.”
Hoon Min raked his eyes over the three of them, before nodding slowly and opening his mouth,
“Hoon Min, Yeo Hoon Min.” was met with a synchronized roll of eyes, and
“We know.”

He was led to a meeting room where piles upon piles of folders and cases were haphazardly stacked on top of each other, a couple of which had already toppled and spread a mess of papers and photographs over the floor.
Struggling to reach the table in the middle of the room, he at last staggered through the final pile of papers, plopped into a seat and faced Shin Soohyun. He took it that he was the leader, as there was no mistaking the leader screaming from his posture and aura.
“Alright, I’m pretty sure this is your second or third time hearing this briefing,” at this he nodded in Kevin’s direction, “but this is important. Dongho isn’t here, but all the same, this mission takes top priority in any situation.” Soohyun then bent down under the table, and sounds of a scuffle and a sharp rap from below had Hoon Min wincing along, as Soohyun emerged with his hair ruffled, rubbing his head and placing a shiny metallic case on the table.
“Hoon Min-ah, I want you to look through this. These are the mission details for this operation, and you’re going to join Eli and KiSeop in the planning and execution for it. Kevin’s our sniper, and Eli and Kiseop are the ones at frontline of attacks. I deal with the paperwork, and our clients. Your skills will come in useful to ensure everyone’s safety. I’m sure security cameras are no problem?”
Hoon Min nodded absentmindedly, as he flipped through pages of raw information. Automatically sifting out the important data in the hundreds of pages, he internalized them, and kept the papers back into the case, already plotting in his head the tactics they could use.
