Year in Review, 2013 Edition

Jan 04, 2014 13:07

1) Where did you begin 2013?
In San Francisco, after attending a friend's wedding in the area on December 30th.

2) What was your status by Valentine’s Day?
Okay, status is still a stupid word. But I was happily married.

3) Were you in school anytime this year?
I was not!

4) How did you earn your money?
I earn my money the same way I did last year: working with MSW students who are earning their degrees online. I have come to resent phone conversations.

5) Did you have to go to the hospital?
No, thankfully.

6) Did you have any encounters with the police?
My life is sounding more boring, but, no.

7) Would you relive 2013 over and over again?
I don't think so. David and I had lots of great things happen to us, but there were certain stressors that I would not choose to relive (specifically related to tax issues).

8) What did you purchase that was over $1000?
Plane tickets to England and Rome in JUNE. Can I never travel in June again, please?

9) Did you know anybody who got married?
Yes'm! My BFF Kandarpa got married in Los Angeles in April, and my sister had her wedding in Rome in June (hence the travel date), though she technically got married in 2012 because her husband is Canadian, eh, and they needed visa things sorted.

10) Did you know anybody who passed away?
Happily, I don't think so. My father's godmother, whom I never met, passed away shortly before the end of the year. I helped him purchase a flower arrangement to have sent to the church in a tiny town on Long Island, New York. Thank goodness for the internet.

11) Did you know anyone who had a baby?
My brother and sister-in-law had their first child on January 30, 2013. I finally got to meet him over Thanksgiving, and I nommed his cheeks for about a week straight.

12) Did you move anywhere?
Noooope. We're on the constant lookout for a new place to live, as our one-bedroom is just too small for a long-term place, but we have not moved yet.

13) What concerts/shows did you go to?
Um. None? Oh, David and I saw Archer Live, which had the voice actors for the show perform and be schticky on stage, which was pretty fun.

14) Are you registered to vote?
Yes.

15) Do you still have the same job as you did in 2013?
Yup. And that's all I'll say to that.

16) Has anyone betrayed you in 2013?
Betrayed is a dramatic term, but I had some pretty horrible interactions at my job. Long story short: I am generally not judging people. That shit is in your OWN. DAMN. HEAD.

17) Where do you live now?
Los Angeles, CA

18) Describe your birthday?
I was super-lame about my birthday and decided that planning even a dinner out seemed really overwhelming. So, I didn't do anything with friends this year (though they asked, because they're awesome), but I did get to go to DISNEYLAND with David, who took me there as a surprise (which I figured out halfway there, because why the hell else would we ever get on the 5 South?). This event spawned my new favorite phrase: LESS TALKING. MORE CHURROING.

19) What’s one thing you thought you’d never do but did in 2013?
Didn't make a big deal about my birthday. I think I was burned out from all the weddings I had planned/assisted with in the past year.

20) What has been your favorite moment?
NOT PLANNING A WEDDING. And pretty much every night where David and I are together, cuddling Frida, our dog, and Pele, our cat. I am a homebody at heart, and life is pretty damn awesome.

21) What’s something you learned about yourself?
I feel like in the last year, I have become more hurt when I see evidence of friend-gatherings to which I was not invited. I don't like this feeling, and I never really felt it before (since, I don't know, high school). I think it's because we have far fewer friends in Los Angeles than we did in Chicago, so it didn't bother me at all when I was there. So, both David and I are trying to do more to expand our friend-circle, but it's hard to do as an adult. Where the fuck do you meet people if a) you're not trying to date them, b) you don't want to hang out with people from work, or c) don't drink heavily? Seriously. And David won't join a hiking group, ha.

22) Any new additions to your family?
My nephew, and my brother-in-law (who is a veterinarian, whom I have already contacted at least once to discuss my cat's vomit. FAMILY!).

23) What was your best month?
Probably October. David got a second job in the Summer, and we were finally feeling pretty secure about money. Hooray!!!

24) Were you in a relationship this year?
MAWWIED!

25) What music will you remember 2013 by?
You wouldn't think that because I now listen to the radio and they only play six songs on repeat, I would have an answer for this, but I don't.

26) Favorite book you read?
I'm not sure, but I have been reading a crap ton of Joshilyn Jackson recently. It appeals to my secret desire to be a southern woman.

27) Favorite Movie?
I really liked Catching Fire. It was pretty impressive how they brought the film to life. And I felt that it didn't celebrate the deaths of the characters as much as the first film.

28) Favorite TV show?
I've been watching Modern Family a lot, but since not having cable, I haven't followed many shows.

29) New friend?
I have a work bestie who is moving to Pennsylvania soon, and I'm really bummed about that. That's probably the biggest relationship I've gained.

30) Would you say you’ve changed since the beginning of this year?
I don't know if I have! But obviously, I'm always growing. I'm in my 30th year, biznatches! I'll be turning 30 in 2014, and that is a pretty odd but fun thought.

31) Do you think 2014 will be better or worse?
Better, always.
