1) Where did you begin 2012?
I think David and I were at home, in Chicago, with colds. We had gone out to dinner that night, and I joined friends for brunch the morning after.
2) What was your status by Valentine’s Day?
Still engaged.
3) Were you in school anytime this year?
I finished my MSW degree at University of Illinois at Chicago, at the Jane Addams College of Social Work, in May. WHOOMUTHAFUCKINHOO.
4) How did you earn your money?
I didn't earn any, until August. Now I work with MSW students who are earning their degrees online. I'm on a web camera quite a bit. It's a lot less sexy than it sounds.
5) Did you have to go to the hospital?
Nope! I went to doctors, but never the hospital.
6) Did you have any encounters with the police?
No! Hooray!
7) Would you relive 2012 over and over again?
Nope. Amazing things happened, but the stress involved would not be worth it to relive those moments. I prefer to move forward, thank you!
8) What did you purchase that was over $1000?
My wedding! Even doing it on the cheap, it was EXPENSIVE.
9) Did you know anybody who got married?
ME. WHOOOO. September 29, 2012, and it was perfect because I got married. It was not perfect because it was stupidly hot. But the day was perfect because I got married to the love of my life. And because PLANNING the wedding was over, thank goodness.
10) Did you know anybody who passed away?
My wonderful aunt passed away in April. That was very, very tough. My uncle came to our wedding, though, which was wonderful.
11) Did you know anyone who had a baby?
A few Facebook friends, I think, but I will be an AUNT for the first time some time in the next month!! Yay, baby!!
12) Did you move anywhere?
YES. David and I drove from Chicago to Riverside in May, and then moved to Los Angeles in the middle of June.
13) What concerts/shows did you go to?
I got to see drag queens and kings perform for a brunch at Hamburger Mary's in West Hollywood as part of my amazing bachelorette party planned by Kandarpa. Buuuuut that's about it.
14) Are you registered to vote?
Yes, and I voted for our President. Thank GOD he won.
15) Do you still have the same job as you did in 2012?
Well, I got the job in 2012, but I did not have a job for the first 2/3rds of the year.
16) Has anyone betrayed you in 2012?
Disappointed by, yes. Betrayed, no.
17) Where do you live now?
Los Angeles, CA
18) Describe your birthday?
The weekend before, I went out for Mexican food and margaritas with friends. The day of, I went out to breakfast with David, which ended up being kind of gross (The Pantry, a famous diner in LA, is extremely overrated). David took me out at least twice in the week following to make up for it. The weekend after, I went to Las Vegas to meet my sister for a sister-bachelorette-party weekend. This consisted of drinks by the pool, pedicures, and lots of good food. I finally saw the fantastic side of Vegas!
19) What’s one thing you thought you’d never do but did in 2012?
Went to Vegas for a bachelorette party (albeit one that consisted of me and my sister). We really had an amazing time, and did not gamble or enter a dance club once.
20) What has been your favorite moment?
The ceremony of my wedding was absolutely PERFECT. There is absolutely nothing I would have changed. Especially the part where I had forgotten to write in the part where we exchange the rings, and Jose is about to pronounce us husband and wife, and Kandarpa and my sister start shouting, RINGS! RINGS! Hilarious. It was so, so wonderful. And then I got to marry David, which... yeah. I really couldn't be happier.
21) What’s something you learned about yourself?
Recently, I have decided that I wish to improve my level of patience - both with the world, and myself. I'm still working on it, but it has severely lessened my anxiety, which is a VERY good thing. (i.e. I learned that attempting to increase my patience with the world has helped make me feel less anxious.)
22) Any new additions to your family?
My brother and sister-in-law will be having a baby at some point in the next month (EEEEEEE!!!!) and David and I adopted our new dog, Frida. She is an adorable little fluffy brat.
23) What was your best month?
Hmm. Probably October. David and I were married, and we got to go to New Orleans for our honeymoon. And we didn't have to do wedding prep. YES.
24) Were you in a relationship this year?
I hope so!
25) What music will you remember 2012 by?
David and I had our first dance at our wedding be the M Ward cover of Let's Dance, and we had our final song be Home by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, but the song I'll probably remember the most this year is "Call Me Maybe." And that is a sad, sad truth.
26) Favorite book you read?
I was disappointed by most books I read this year. I read Eat, Pray, Love, which was okay, but it did succeed in really making me want to successfully meditate. We're still waiting for that to happen. (And by we, I mean I.) I am, however, actually paying attention to the breathing part of yoga, which is a big step for me.
27) Favorite Movie?
Oh, I have no idea.
28) Favorite TV show?
Up All Night started off amaaaazingly, but I've really hated this second season. I want Sean Hayes to go away now. I like him as an actor, but I hate his character, and how he interacts with Maya Rudolph's character.
29) New friend?
New CA people and friends, absolutely. Best friends? They've stayed the same throughout the years.
30) Would you say you’ve changed since the beginning of this year?
Absolutely. I'm in a much, much happier place.
31) Do you think 2012 will be better or worse?
I'm keeping what I've said every year: Things get better, always.
