Everyone wants to know, "How's married life?" Two words:
fucking.
insane.
1. School: I'm basically not doing any schoolwork beyond that which is the bare minimum. See below.
2. Internship: at Harvard-Epworth UMC, things are starting to get going. I'm scheduled to preach my first *real* sermon on October 19th. And people are getting excited about social action, which I'm stepping up to lead. At Cambridge Welcoming, I'm at home again. I miss those folks and need a weekly dose of religious gayness or I go crazy. Joy is really anxious about her internship there, but I think she's doing a great job.
3. Home: taking up all my free time. Between Stephen and the apartment, I've got my hands full fixing things up around here and helping him get acclimated to Boston.
4. Me: well... last week I was really anxious and felt on edge most of the time. It's really uncomfortable and it's exhausting too! I would like my anxiety to go away. It hasn't been so bad these last couple of days, though. I'm trying to figure out if I should stay in therapy or switch to behavior modification treatment.
5. CAUSE: I'm the BUTSA representative (it's like Student Senate), I'm planning two educational events, and a service trip to the Gulf Coast. When is someone else going to come up with an idea? HEUMC is getting in on the Gulf Coast action too... current goal is two separate work teams comprised of HEUMC folks and students from BU STH and Harvard Div, going down during their respective spring breaks.
I'm hoping my anxiety will go away soon when I get things financially set, hopefully in the next two weeks. It has taken forever because of bad things with the school financial aid officer... I won't go into that.
It feels great to have my church family and family-family in the same place for once. I don't know what I'd do without Cambridge Welcoming. They (Tiffany) gave us groceries tonight. We had a party for the church's 6-year anniversary, and there was plenty left over. I cut the rainbow cake! :o)
Ok, now here's a question I want you all to weigh in on:
@ CWM, it's the norm to always call one's spouse "partner" because it avoids heteronormative language and calls attention to the fact that GLBT couples can get married in MA too. Stephen wants to be called "husband" and not partner "just because." I see it as Stephen enjoying male privilege ("husband" has way more status than "wife"). Stephen doesn't see the subversive value of "partner." Thoughts on our dilemma?
