Tuesday, 2nd September 2008 ... Funchal ...
It was our second sightseeing day in Funchal. Mica and I went to the city in the morning. We walked around which I really enjoyed. Funchal was such a great city, I loved it and actually, I really miss this place. How much would I give to go there now and enjoy the Madeirean way of life and everything which is down there!!
Mica and I walked up to a place called Fortaleza do Pico. Mica, please correct me if I wrote a mistake again. I really don't mind that and honestly, I feel a bit embarrassed when I make mistakes (even small ones as you said before). Fortaleza do Pico was interesting. We had a really great view over the city which I enjoyed very much. We could also see some shopping centres we had been to before.
After walking around in the Fortaleza, we went to a café to drink something. As usual, I drank a cappuccino. Yeah, I couldn't be without it. We went back down to the city and visited the Madeira Story Centre. This was interesting. It was all about Madeira's history. I loved it and we spent about 2 hours in there. Maybe, it was even more. I was so amazed by everything which was in there. Mica liked as well. I read everything which was written on the walls and so on. All the informations really inspired me in a way. I am now thinking of writing my thesis about it when I'm going to finish my studies. I haven't decided anything so far. It's just an idea and I have to find out if it's a good topic for a thesis and it's not too complicated because I have to do it in Switzerland and can't go to Madeira all the time. But so far, it's sure that I want to do something with travelling in the Middle Ages. Thinking of Madeira, I could do something with the discovery and so on. But now, enough about it. Let's go back to my holidays!!
As I said we spent really much time in the Story Centre and it was worth it. After being in there, we went to a shopping centre to meet up with Andreia and Cátia. The shopping centre was called Madeira Shopping and it was outside of Funchal. As you can guess, I loved that one as well!! But I didn't buy anything when I was there for the first time. I was too stingy at that time which changed later. :) haha ... But we snooped around in the shops and ate something.
When we went home, Andreia stopped somewhere where we could enjoy a really great view over Funchal again. It was very romantic because it was already dark. I think it was almost 9 pm when we were there. After being to our viewpoint, we went home.
