SPOILER ALERTS for:
Awake
It's only the second episode but already some of the dialogues seem a bit generic to me. Also the obvious way to separate Britten's two realities-the greenish tint of the scenes with Britten and son, the emphasised red colours of the scenes with the wife, isn't exactly subtle story telling. I would like the series to be a bit more complex, confusing, more disorientating. Because of the long scenes where Jason Isaacs deals with the wife and the son, the solving of the cases seems hurried, which is unfortunate.
I will keep watching though because Jason Isaacs looks absolutely gorgeous! Since, apart from him, there is nobody else who looks as good as he does, I have no desire to slash him with anyone though. (Maybe the cute friend of his son) :D
Downton Abbey
I liked the beginning of the series-it was promising. Good acting, handsome people, gorgeous clothes and sets. I was especially fond of the fashion.
The blond actor, who's the love interest of the oldest daughter, Mary, is very handsome!
After a few episodes though I found watching that series was like reading the gossip section of a magazine. The fact that it was set during the first world war, seemed quite irrelevant and served as an excuse for expensive sets, carriages, horses and dresses ;D
And that "He is paralysed-oh, wait! Now he can walk again because he wasn't really paralysed" plot device? Hm.
But-great dresses, one cute blond beau!
Bones
While the rest of the cast reminds me of high school bullies-especially Booth of course-I do like the young psychologist and I really like Daisy, the intern.
As an Asian I'm not fond of clichées about Asians, and wasn't too fond of that "Japanese episode" (Season Four/Episode 23: The Girl in the Mask). The entire episode could have been summed up with "The Japanese are soooo strange!"
Also the way Angela "found out" about Dr. Tanaka's gender was ... pretty disturbing.
Currently I am in the middle of Season Six (I haven't seen Season Seven yet) and was a bit bemused by the "Canadian Episode". Are there any Canadians, who have seen this Bones Episode, on my Flist? Are Canadians really that polite? If they are anything like the way they're portrayed in this episode, they would really get along very well with Japanese people! Before I watched this particular episode I never even knew about the existence of this cliché! And I had a Canadian friend in Tokyo who visited nearly every evening to play WII :D
I do love most of the science trivia in this show although I have of course no idea about how accurate they are-I'm just easily entertained and impressed!
The Walking Dead
I adore the action scenes-where there is going to places, doing stuff, saving people, shooting, sawing, biting, screaming, running, rawring.
The actor who plays Shane and the child who plays Annoying Kid do a great job.
I admire child actors although I despise (most, not all) children in movies and TV-series. Most of these actors learn about human nature a lot earlier than other normal children.
(Which is why I find actors like Daniel Radcliffe or Emma Watson fascinating. I imagine them already by default smarter or further advanced. I imagine in order to convincingly act like a child-one has to actually stop being a child and begin to observe the world around and others and of course oneself in a very detached, clinical way.)
The make-up is great-the zombies look great. Some of the questions the plot asks and answers (or leaves unanswered) are very interesting.
In one episode we learn that Hershel, the owner of the farm who takes the group in, doesn't like the Undead to be called "Walkers". To him they are sick people and he holds out hope for a cure. Some episodes and shootings later, he doesn't mind any longer, calls them "Walkers" himself.
In one episode the main girl, a brunette, scolds the blonde girl because she doesn't help with the cooking. Blonde girl keeps watch though, which I don't find a unnecessary task. Also, Brunette girl doesn't tell any of the men to help with the cooking or the laundry. Maybe I'm fussy.
Episode 11 of Season 2 had killed The Old Kind Man off, who was the moral equalizer of the group, visualising the group descent and the slow corrosion of moral principles. I liked him, although storywise it was a good move! More chaos and ... Braaaaains :D
I am anxiously awaiting Games of Thrones Season Two, American Horror Story Season Two and Mad Men Season Five. I have also not seen Breaking Bad Season Four, but am very much looking forward to it. Dexter is another series I like but I could do without the voice over.
Are there any other interesting programmes out there?
(And the clicking on the subject actually links to the song! So if you like A-ha ... :D)
