I got a gift: And Thank You For Staying by Lucius Complex

The beautiful and wonderful lucius_complex wrote me a gift!

And Thank You For Staying is the first, chaptered fic in her Tony/Loki trilogy titled Flawed Design ...

1. Whatever lucius_complex writes, is incredibly beautiful and unique. The way she sets her plots, crafts her sentences and develops her characters is simply mindblowing. Some of them may be fairly straight forward in canon, profane even, but lucius_complex lends them depth, lets them grow, takes them places, and manages to still let them be recognisable as the characters you fell in love with.

2. While many Tony/Loki stories rely solely on RDJ's Tony Stark's witty one-liners (and I love those fics-some feature such excellent, sarcastic Tony Starks and delightfully sexy Lokis) lucius_complex's take invites you to review Tony Stark, Loki and their relationship from yet another angle-maybe also because this is her first Avengers-fic. The first fic in a fandom is often unusual, because the writer isn't yet too familiar with the tropes of the particular fandom. Sometimes, this can turn a fic into a very valuable piece of new inspiration: Every genre needs genre-atypical fics, in order to revive the genre, to enrich it, and lucius_complex's And Thank You For Staying does such a marvellous, splendid job!

3. Recently Tom Hiddleston said on the concept of immortality:

"But if you had an endless stretch of time, how would you use it and what would you choose to become expert at? You could become a concert pianist, you could become a fantastic artist."

It's almost impossible to find a captivating, convincing way to write about immortality or a life span so extended it surpasses human understanding. It's against our nature to grasp the very concept of immortality: If you were to live a billion of years, nothing that would matter to human minds would matter to you any longer. Any existential questions that occupy our feeble mortal minds would be irrelevant and obsolete which is why I rather liked lucius_complex's take :)

As always: please heed the warnings, (this is not though in any sense a "dark fic", even though the warnings might lead you to this conclusion!) ... and please go and read it!

You won't regret it! (And please please please leave the author a word of love! I want her to fall in love with the Avenger fandom and positive feedback can be such a crucial part of that process, don't you think? :)

The earth had fallen to myth half an eon ago, and they had since walked so many other solar systems, made their home in countless other worlds and even the occasional moon. They’d been known as gods and demons, hailed as fathers of a new race (several times in fact; there are temples somewhere out there in the galaxy with Tony’s face on it, something he finds disturbing on an almost cosmic level).

There are races out there who called them time travellers, creators, destroyers, wandering spirits, hungry ghosts.

There'd been a planet called Lokitory, in the XFD protogalaxy; once they had stopped there briefly for provisions and ended up staying a local millennia, and Loki had been insufferable for a few hundred human years after that.

and thank you for staying, ironman, user: lucius_complex, loki, gift for me, flawed design, frostiron, fic, tony/loki, the avengers, tony stark
