Summary: Their second Christmas together is almost exactly like their first, except for the part where everything's different.
A/N: For jengeorge.

The first time Noah spent the night in the Hummels’ house was during their second Christmas together. He’d slept in the White House before, back when he was still part of Kurt’s detail and Kurt spent Thanksgiving pretending Noah didn’t exist, but he’d never spent the night in the President’s permanent residence.

Since that first Thanksgiving everything had changed; he and Kurt had been together almost a year by the time their second Thanksgiving rolled around, and when Kurt came back to D.C. for Thanksgiving this year they just stayed in their own apartment.

Technically it was still Noah’s place, but Kurt’s stuff was everywhere even when he wasn’t, fussy bottles of shampoo and lotion cluttering the bathroom, and clothes he hadn’t bothered to take back to Rhode Island hanging in his half of the closet. All of it reminded Noah that Kurt was a permanent part of his life now, that even when they were separated because of his school schedule, Kurt was going to come back eventually.

They didn’t see a lot of each other during Kurt’s first semester back at RISD, mostly because Noah was still the junior Assistant in Senator Sylvester’s office, which meant he couldn’t get away to visit Kurt as often as he wanted. He managed to get away long enough to fly back to Rhode Island with Kurt, to get him settled in his old dorm room and even break in the bed, just so Kurt would have something to think about when he was stuck there all alone.

He only got to stay a night, though, and when he got back to D.C. their apartment felt a lot more empty. It got a little easier after the first couple weeks, but even once he got used to Kurt being gone there was still a vague gnawing at the edge of Noah's consciousness, like when he set his keys down and couldn't remember where.

They still talked every day, 6:00 on the dot on weekdays and a little later on the weekends, to give Kurt a chance to sleep in. It wasn't the same as waking up together, but it was a lot like the way things were when they first got together, so in a way it was sort of cool. Romantic, according to Kurt, and whenever he said it Noah just laughed and pointed out that he could be a lot more romantic if Kurt was waking up with him, but the truth was Noah kind of agreed.

Still, nothing beat falling asleep next to Kurt and then waking up to find him still there. Noah still got a charge out of waking up to the sight of Kurt face down in the pillows, hair messed up and looking exactly the way he did the first time Noah woke him up, and he figured he wasn’t ever going to get tired of seeing it, even when they lived together full time.

By the time Christmas rolled around they hadn’t seen each other for nearly a month; between Noah’s work schedule and Kurt’s finals they barely had time to talk for more than a few minutes in the morning, and Noah knew it shouldn’t bother him so much to be away from Kurt, but there it was all the same.

The practical thing to do would have been to meet in Columbus. Noah could have flown home ahead of Kurt, spent a couple days in Lima with his own family, exchanged Hanukkah gifts and caught up with Artie and Britt before he headed down to Columbus to meet Kurt for Christmas. But they’d already been apart too long, so when the Senate adjourned for the holiday ahead of schedule, Noah booked the first open flight he could find just to see Kurt a day and a half early.

He thought about calling ahead, figured if he didn’t want Kurt’s security detail to hate him that he should at least give them a heads up about showing up unannounced. But he’d never surprised Kurt before, not really, and Kurt had surprised him often enough that Noah wanted to return the favor. So he braved coach for the first time since he was shot, folding himself into the too-narrow space and doing his best not to vibrate with anticipation and annoy everybody else in his row.

An hour later he was on the ground in Providence, duffel bag slung over one shoulder and muscling his way through the rest of the holiday travelers to hail a cab that would take him to the RISD campus. He knew Kurt would still be in class, and it was tempting to call and see if he could get Kurt to bail a little early, but that would ruin the surprise, so instead Noah got the cab to drop him at Kurt’s dorm.

He waited for another resident to let him in, then he climbed the stairs he knew by heart and made his way down the hall to lean against the wall next to Kurt’s door and wait. There was a chance Kurt wouldn’t come straight back to his room after class, but he’d spent their conversation that morning complaining about how he hadn’t even had time to pack for the trip home, so chances were good he’d pass on an afternoon cup of coffee to make sure he had enough clothes to get through two weeks of boring parties and public appearances.

Noah had been through all of that before, except he’d been working at the time, and it was going to be a little weird, going as Kurt’s date to all that stuff instead of as the hired help. Kurt had offered to let him bail on the public appearances, but just the thought of what happened last year was enough for Noah to insist that he’d much rather stand around and watch Kurt wave to a crowd than hang out with Finn and Will for a few hours.

It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Kurt’s detail; they all knew what they were doing, and as far as Kurt knew there hadn’t been any more chatter about trying to stop him and Sam from taking on the oil industry. But Noah knew better than anyone that Kurt would be the last to hear about that stuff, and now that he wasn’t in the loop either, that meant neither of them would know until something happened.

He was frowning at the thought when he heard footsteps approaching, and Noah looked up in time to watch two members of Kurt’s detail walking toward him. He recognized both of them; one he’d worked with back when Noah was still an agent, and the other one had joined Kurt’s team just before the school year started.

Noah nodded at them and pushed himself off the wall, heart beating a little faster as he waited for Kurt to put in an appearance. A second later there he was, and when he spotted Noah his expression shifted from annoyed to stunned.

“Noah,” he said, shoving his way past the agents to get to him. When he was barely a foot away Kurt stopped, reaching out rest hand on the front of Noah’s leather jacket. “What are you doing here?”

Noah shrugged and edged a little closer, hands landing on Kurt’s hips, and he usually kept the public displays to a minimum for the sake of Kurt’s security detail, but after a month apart he figured they could look the other way if they didn’t like it.

“The Senator left for Cabo early, so I had some time to kill.”

Kurt snorted something like a laugh and slid his other hand under Noah’s jacket, fingers pressed against Noah’s chest and worrying the fabric of his shirt. “How she keeps getting reelected when she refuses to set foot in Ohio is beyond me.”

“I think the idea is to keep her out of Ohio,” Noah answered, grinning and leaning in to brush a kiss against Kurt’s lips. “I don’t care where she is, as long as we’re done until January. I missed you, babe.”

“Me too,” Kurt whispered, his cheeks flushing Noah’s favorite shade of red as his hand slid a little further down Noah’s chest. He glanced away from Kurt long enough to look at the agents standing on either side of the door, then he turned back to Kurt and brushed another kiss across his cheek this time.

“Your room’s clear.”

Kurt nodded, then he let out a shaky breath that went straight to Noah’s dick. The hand on the front of Noah’s jacket closed even tighter, and a second later Noah found himself being dragged through the door and into Kurt’s room. He kicked it shut behind them, not looking to see the reaction of the agents standing on either side. Once they were alone Kurt hauled him forward and kissed him hard, bodies fitted together from their chests to their knees and parting his lips to let Noah in.

His hands pushed under Noah’s jacket, easing the leather off his shoulders until Noah let go of him long enough to pull it off. He tossed it in the direction of Kurt’s desk chair before he reached for Kurt again, fingers working open the buttons of Kurt’s own coat to slide it off.

“Why didn’t you call?” Kurt asked, hands on Noah’s shoulders and just looking at him for a second, like he was trying to convince himself Noah was really there.

“I wanted to surprise you.”

Noah’s hands were on Kurt’s chest, working his buttons open as carefully as possible after a month of not touching Kurt at all. It wasn’t even that long, considering, but it felt like forever, and Noah paused when Kurt’s shirt was unbuttoned and tilted Kurt’s chin up to kiss him again.

“Consider me surprised,” Kurt whispered against his lips, and Noah laughed and got back to the task of getting them both out of their clothes. “I thought I’d have to wait another whole day to see you again.”

“I couldn’t take another day. I was going crazy without you, babe.”

Noah murmured the words against Kurt’s skin, on his neck just below his ear. He punctuated them with a kiss, lips parted and tongue sliding along the shell of Kurt’s ear. When Kurt sucked in a sharp breath Noah grinned, then he pressed another kiss to Kurt’s jaw.

When he pulled back Kurt was blushing, lips curled into a pleased smile and tugging Noah’s jeans open. “Well we can’t have that, can we?”

Noah laughed and let go of Kurt long enough to tug his shirt off, then he kicked his shoes off and slid his jeans down. When he looked up again Kurt was watching him, cheeks even redder but his eyes were dark now, and Noah grinned and pulled him close again.

“I’m not keeping you from any last minute school stuff or anything, am I?”

Kurt shook his head and slid his arms around Noah’s waist to press his hands against the small of his back. “Even if you were, I wouldn’t mind. Besides, I only have one final tomorrow morning, and if I’m not ready for it by now I never will be.”

“You sure? Because I could...” Noah gestured toward the door, but before he could even finish his sentence Kurt’s hand curved around his ass to squeeze.

“Noah. Shut up,” he said, and Noah knew better than to argue with that. Instead he grinned and let Kurt kiss him again, pushing back into the hand still on his ass until Kurt hooked his thumbs in Noah’s underwear and slid them down to join his jeans on the floor.

A second later Kurt slid to his knees, hands on Noah’s thighs and just looking up at him for a second, like maybe he was waiting for permission or something. Before Noah could open his mouth to say yes and please and I’ve been thinking about this all month Kurt reached out to wrap a hand around Noah’s cock, stroking a few times before he leaned forward and slid his mouth down Noah’s length.

Noah groaned and closed his eyes, hand in Kurt’s hair to stroke along his scalp. Kurt’s hand worked his dick in time with his mouth, tongue flattening against the head with each upstroke and it was all Noah could do to keep himself from thrusting forward into wet heat. Instead he opened his eyes to look down at Kurt, taking in the sight of long eyelashes and red lips wrapped around him.

“Fuck, I missed you,” Noah murmured, and when Kurt’s eyes blinked open to look up at him Noah’s heart skipped a beat.

He pulled off Noah, reaching up to wipe the back of his hand across his mouth. His other hand was still moving on Noah’s dick, stroking slow like he was trying to make it last. “What did you miss?”

“I missed your hands,” Noah said, and Kurt twisted his grip a little, smiling when Noah moaned. “And I missed your mouth.”

Kurt smiled again and leaned in to wrap his lips around the head of Noah’s cock, tongue teasing the slit and making Noah’s whole body shudder.

“I missed that little noise you make when I kiss your neck,” Noah said, fingers sliding through Kurt’s hair to touch the sensitive spot right behind his ear. “I miss waking up before you and just watching you until you wake up. I miss the way you always steal the business section before I’m done with the paper. I miss...fuck...the way you make coffee. Babe, I can’t...”

As soon as he said it Kurt’s mouth was gone again, then he was standing up and pulling Noah forward to kiss him hard. His tongue slid past Noah’s teeth, hands on his back to pull him close and rocking against him. Kurt was murmuring into the kiss, and Noah couldn’t make out the words, but he knew what Kurt was saying all the same.

His hands landed on Kurt’s neck to hold him in place, taking control of the kiss as he backed Kurt toward the bed. It was way too small for both of them, but they’d made it work before, and Noah wasn’t about to let something like the size of the bed get in the way now. He stopped when they reached the edge, pausing long enough to get Kurt out of the rest of his clothes before Noah eased him down onto the mattress and crawled over him.

He stretched out next to Kurt, hand on his hip to drag him close and their legs tangled together. Kurt’s arms slid around his neck to kiss him again, slow this time, like he was committing it to memory. Noah pushed a thigh between his legs to feel Kurt hard against him, listening to him moan low in his throat as he rocked up for more.

He’d missed this too, missed the way Kurt clung to him, the way he couldn’t get close enough, the way he demanded more without even realizing what he was doing. He missed the way Kurt wanted him, like there was nobody else in the world who could give him what he needed, and Noah was planning to make sure it stayed that way.

“Where’s the lube?” he murmured, rolling onto his back when Kurt pushed him off long enough to retrieve the lube stashed in his dresser.

When he climbed back onto the bed Noah reached for him, pushing him back onto the mattress and straddling his hips to look down at him. Kurt dropped the lube on the mattress and reached up to run his hands across Noah’s shoulders and down his arms, tracing taut muscle where Noah’s hands were braced on either side of him.

“I missed you too. So much,” Kurt said, hands moving up and down Noah’s arms and sending little shivers of pleasure down Noah’s spine. “How are we going to get through three more years of this?”

“We’ll get through it. We love each other, so we’ll figure it out. Anyway, we already know it’s better than trying not to be together, right?”

Kurt nodded against the pillow and slid a hand up to Noah’s neck to pull him forward. Noah kissed him hard, just in case Kurt had any doubts that he meant it. When they came up for air Kurt was still staring at him, pupils blown wide and hair a mess and Noah’s heart clenched hard in his chest at the sight.

He kissed his way down the center of Kurt’s chest, past his belly button and tracing the sharp angle of Kurt’s hip bone with his tongue. That got him a breathy little gasp, Kurt’s hips arching off the bed and Noah laughed against his skin and kept going. He ignored Kurt’s dick, sliding his hands under Kurt’s thighs to push his legs up and apart until Kurt was on full display.

Noah had lost count a long time ago of how many times they’d done this, but that didn’t stop Kurt from flushing when Noah glanced up at him. “You’re so fucking hot, babe.”

Kurt blushed even harder at that, but a second later he was moaning at the warm press of Noah’s tongue against his hole. His hands closed around the sheets on either side of him, knuckles white and his legs shaking in Noah’s grip as he worked Kurt open. It didn’t take long for him to forget to be self-conscious, to stop caring how he looked and start demanding more.

That was the part Noah liked best, the way Kurt whined his name in that voice of his, choked and sort of breathy and needy all at the same time. He liked the way Kurt tilted his hips to give Noah more room to work with, and the way his chest went kind of red from the effort of holding himself open.

Kurt reached down to close a hand around his cock, hand moving in time with the tongue pressing inside him, and when Noah felt him start to shake even harder he pulled away to look up at Kurt. “Don’t come yet.”

Kurt let out a whine that sounded sort of desperate, but he loosened his grip a little and let his legs fall back to the mattress as Noah reached over him to grab the lube. He flipped it open and poured some into his palm, then he reached out to close a slick hand around Kurt’s dick. Kurt bit his lip as he watched Noah’s hand working his cock, then he bit down even harder when Noah let go of him to push two slick fingers inside himself.

Kurt’s hands rested on Noah’s thighs, fingers digging into his muscles and the pressure was enough to distract Noah from coming as soon as he slid down onto Kurt’s cock. He stopped when Kurt was as deep as he could get, his hands landing on Kurt’s where they were still pressed against Noah’s legs. Kurt slid their fingers together and gripped hard, holding still to let Noah get used to the stretch after weeks of nothing but his right hand and the sound of Kurt’s voice on the other end of the phone.

Noah pushed himself up far enough to lean over Kurt, and when Kurt leaned up to kiss him Noah sank back down until Kurt was buried deep again. Kurt moaned into the kiss and pressed his hips up to meet Noah, rocking up into each down stroke until they found just the right rhythm. A hand slid between them to close around Noah’s cock, gripping him hard and moving in counterpoint to his hips, and before long Noah was panting against Kurt’s mouth and fighting to keep from losing it too soon.

But it had been weeks since they did this, and days since they even had time for phone sex, so it was no surprise when Noah tensed and came with a grunt. He clenched hard around the dick still buried inside him, grinding down to get Kurt even deeper, and Kurt made a strangled noise and bucked up hard and came.

Kurt’s arms slid around him to pull him down onto the mattress, pressing their lips together and just kind of breathing against him. He could feel Kurt’s heart racing where their chests were pressed together, felt his own heart pounding too and Noah tightened his grip on Kurt’s waist and didn’t think about when he’d have to let go.

~

Spending two nights crammed into Kurt’s dorm room bed with him wasn’t ideal or anything, but given the alternative, Noah wasn’t going to bitch about it. He could have stayed in D.C. where he had their big bed all to himself, or he could have flown to Ohio alone and waited even longer to see Kurt again. So a couple nights of sharing a single bed was no big deal, and hanging out waiting for Kurt to take his last final meant Noah got the chance to revisit his old stomping grounds.

He went for a run through downtown, following his old route along the canals and past the bar where Will had tried to pick him that first time. Noah laughed at the memory, wishing for a second that Will was still in Rhode Island so he could call and catch up. But Will had moved to Ohio the second Finn gave him the okay, claiming he could finish his dissertation just as easily there, with a few trips back to URI to do the performance parts.

He hadn’t given Finn a chance to try and argue, which was the first smart thing he’d done, as far as Noah was concerned. And anyway, the fact that Will was in Ohio now meant Noah would be seeing him in a day or two, depending on how weird Finn was still being about steering clear of his folks’ house when the Secret Service was around.

By the time he finished his run and showered Kurt’s final was almost over, so Noah headed across campus to a building he knew as well as most of the students on campus. Sure enough, when he reached the building two agents were standing outside, and Noah nodded at them and headed in to find Kurt’s classroom.

Two more agents were stationed just outside the door, which meant Kurt was still inside. It still felt kind of weird, standing in the empty hall with a couple guys he used to work with, doing the job he used to do. He leaned against the wall and did his best not to look as uncomfortable as he felt, but he was grateful when the classroom door finally opened and students started filing into the hall.

Kurt was at the end of the group, just like Noah knew he would be, mostly because it was easier for his detail to wait until the room was empty to escort him out. When he finally did make an appearance there was someone next to him, and Noah frowned at the sight of Blaine grinning and waving a hand around in the air while he talked.

It took a second for Kurt to spot him, but as soon as he did he ditched Blaine in mid-sentence and headed straight for Noah. As soon as Kurt reached him he leaned in for a kiss, and Noah reached up to rest a hand against Kurt’s neck while he kissed him back.

He knew they were holding up Kurt’s security team, that the last thing they wanted to do was stand around and watch him and Kurt make out when they had a schedule to keep. They were supposed to catch a plane back to Columbus in just a few hours, and thanks to Noah showing up early Kurt still hadn’t even really packed.

So the last thing they should be doing was dragging out a public display like this, but when Noah looked up and saw the expression on Blaine’s face he knew it was worth it. He was still smiling, but it was kind of frozen, like he wasn’t sure whether to cut his losses and bail, or stick around and be polite to Kurt’s boyfriend.

Noah knew what he probably would have chosen if he were in Blaine’s shoes, but Blaine was raised to be polite, so in the end he opted to clear his throat and sidle a little closer and wait for Kurt to remember he was still standing there. Which wasn’t happening any time soon, Noah was pretty sure, so finally he took pity on the guy and eased away from Kurt just enough to keep things at a PG rating.

“‘Sup,” he said, nodding in Blaine’s direction, and at the sound of his voice Kurt blinked and glanced over his shoulder.

“Oh. Blaine, you remember Noah.”

“Of course,” Blaine answered, and Noah stifled a laugh, because he was pretty sure Blaine was never going to forget him, even once he finally got over his crush on Kurt. “Kurt mentioned you’re working for a senator now. Congratulations.”

“Thanks,” Noah said, and he wasn’t jealous of Blaine anymore, because he knew how Kurt felt about him, but he slid his arm around Kurt’s waist anyway and leaned in to talk close to his ear. “Babe, we should probably get a move on if you want to pack your stuff before the cars get here.”

Kurt nodded, but he didn’t look like he was thinking all that much about packing. It wasn’t all that high on Noah’s priority list either, but he didn’t want to miss their plane and piss off Kurt’s security detail and the president. Besides, it was kind of cool, getting Kurt to forget all about everything except him, and he wasn’t above letting Blaine see firsthand that this thing between them was for real.

As soon as he thought it Blaine cleared his throat again, and Kurt blinked and turned to look at him. “I’m sorry, Blaine, but I won’t have time for coffee after all. Noah got in a little early, and we’ve got a flight to catch this afternoon.”

Blaine nodded, and at least he was smart enough to figure out when he was getting the brush-off. “No problem. I’ll see you next year.”

He took a step forward, then he caught sight of Noah and thought better of whatever he was about to do. “Merry Christmas,” he said instead, blushing a shade of red that would have made Santa proud.

“Merry Christmas,” Kurt answered, oblivious to whatever Blaine’s deal was, and somehow Noah managed not to laugh until after Blaine walked away.

“What’s funny?” Kurt asked as Noah steered him toward the door that would lead them back to his dorm.

“Nothing,” Noah said, turning into him to brush a kiss against the side of Kurt’s head. “Just glad to be here, that’s all.”

~

He was still glad to be there once they landed in Columbus, but once they touched down and the Secret Service ushered them into the cars that would take them to the President’s house, it was impossible to avoid thinking about the fact that he’d be sharing a room with Kurt the whole time they were in town.

And okay, it wasn’t exactly his childhood bedroom or anything, but it was still under his father’s roof, and that was enough to make Noah feel kind of weird about it. Every time he brought it up Kurt reminded him that they’d shared an apartment all summer, that if he weren’t in school they’d be living together full time, and obviously his parents knew they had sex. It was supposed to make Noah feel better, but instead it just made him feel even more like he was wearing a neon sign that said, “I’m fucking your son.”

He knew the President liked him, knew the First Lady did too, mostly because whenever Will e-mailed him he mentioned that Finn was sick of hearing his mom go on about how awesome Noah was. It seemed kind of funny when it was annoying Finn, but now that he had something to live up to he couldn’t help being a little nervous about being a guest in their house instead of just another member of Kurt's security team.

Way before he was ready the car pulled up in front of the house, and Noah took a deep breath and glanced over at Kurt. “You sure about this? There’s a hotel right down the street.”

“Stop being ridiculous,” Kurt said, but he reached over and squeezed Noah’s hand anyway. “You’ve still got stores of good will for saving my life, and even once that runs out, they’ll still love you."

“Yeah, they like me as a concept,” Noah answered, frowning when Kurt laughed. “But there’s a big difference between wanting you to be happy and knowing we’re right upstairs in your old room together.”

Kurt rolled his eyes, but he was still smiling, and Noah was pretty sure he was still being laughed at. “You’re right. It will probably come as a huge shock to them to discover that we don’t have separate rooms in the apartment.”

As he spoke he shoved Noah out of the car, then Kurt climbed out after him and caught his hand. He pulled Noah close and reached out to rest a hand on the back of his neck, thumb tracing distracting little circles on his skin and making Noah forget the chill in the air.

“My parents know how much I love you, Noah. As far as they’re concerned, you’re already a member of the family. We’re going to be spending a lot of nights together in their house over the years, so you might as well start getting used to it. Okay?”

As soon as he said it Noah pictured it, the two of them years from now showing up at Kurt’s folks’ place for Christmas and birthdays and a dozen other occasions. He could see them with a couple kids in tow, scrambling to get out of the car and get to their grandparents, him and Kurt lagging behind with armloads of presents. He could picture them with his family too, his mom fussing over both of them and his Nana plying them with challah and rugelach and telling Noah that Kurt was way too skinny.

“Hey. Earth to Noah,” Kurt said, and when Noah blinked him back into focus Kurt was frowning like he was worried. “Where’d you go?”

“Nowhere.” Noah pressed forward and kissed Kurt hard, hands on his waist and holding him close, and he could tell Kurt was confused, but instead of asking he just kissed Noah back. “I’m right where I want to be.”

“Good,” Kurt said, pulling back to frown at him for another second, then he laughed and tugged the hand that was still wrapped in his. “Then can we go inside? It’s freezing out here.”

Noah nodded and let Kurt pull him into the house, doing his best to shake off the weirdness of the last few minutes so Kurt’s parents wouldn’t think he’d totally lost it in the few months since Kurt had been back in school. President Hummel had gotten him his job, after all, and Noah wanted him to know he hadn’t made a mistake. He wanted Kurt’s family to know that they were right to put their faith in him, even if the start of their relationship wasn’t exactly traditional.

The foyer was decorated pretty much exactly the same way it had been last year, same giant wreath on the front door and the same garland wrapped around the stair railings. It all looked just like it did last time he was here, except this time he was Kurt's boyfriend instead of an employee.

This time he was actually invited to Christmas, and okay, he didn't celebrate, but if he was going to be with Kurt he figured he was going to learn.

Before they got more than a few steps into the house the First Lady herself appeared, making that high-pitched sound that Noah had figured out meant she was happy to see them. She grabbed Kurt first, hugging him tight enough to make his ears turn red and firing off question after question about school without waiting for answers to any of them.

Once Kurt finally managed to escape she turned on Noah, and when she grabbed him and hugged him just as tight he tried not to look surprised. When Noah glanced over her shoulder at Kurt he was smirking, and as soon as their eyes met Kurt mouthed told you so. Noah rolled his eyes and let Mrs. Hummel hug him some more, and when she finally let go he managed a genuine smile.

“Noah, I’m so glad you could be here to celebrate with us. I know your family must be missing you.”

“They’re pretty used to me not being around,” he said, shrugging and casting a glance at Kurt. “Besides, we’ll see them next week.”

That made her beam even harder, and for a second he thought she might hug him again. Instead she clapped her hands together and looked over at the collection of suitcases Kurt had brought with him, like he was moving back in instead of just visiting for a couple weeks.

“Why don’t you boys go upstairs and get settled?” she said, still beaming like she really meant it. “Burt should be back from his meeting with the governor soon, and once Finn and Will get here we’ll all sit down to a nice family dinner.”

A second later she was gone again, two Secret Service agents trailing after her as she pulled out her cell phone and punched in a number. Noah shook his head and followed Kurt up the stairs, duffel bag slung over one shoulder and the biggest of Kurt’s suitcases in his other hand.

When they reached Kurt’s room he set the luggage down just inside the door, then he waited for the agent on duty to clear the room before he shut the door and sat down hard on the edge of the bed to watch Kurt moving around the room. “You sure you don’t want to stay in a hotel? Your security detail stays right down the road; we wouldn’t even be messing up their schedule.”

“Don’t be ridiculous. You saw how happy Carole was to have us here; we can’t very well tell them we’re leaving now.”

“It’s not like we’d be running out on them or anything. We’d just be sleeping somewhere else.”

Kurt sighed and sat down next to him, reaching over to rest a hand on Noah’s thigh. “They’re really fine with this, Noah, I promise. I specifically asked if they’d feel more comfortable with us staying elsewhere, and they insisted we stay here.”

Noah let out a breath and fell backwards onto the mattress, hands crossed over his chest and staring up at the ceiling. “You know, last time we were here I thought a lot about what it would be like to be in this bed with you.”

He felt Kurt shift on the mattress, then he was stretching out on his side next to Noah, fingers stroking Noah’s scalp in a seriously distracting way. “You can’t possibly have thought about it more than I did. As I recall, I practically engraved you an invitation on New Year’s Eve.”

Noah grinned at the memory and looked over at Kurt. “Believe me, babe, I wanted to say yes.”

“I know,” Kurt answered, leaning in to press a soft kiss to the corner of Noah’s mouth. “So now that you’re here, why waste the opportunity?”

Noah laughed against his mouth and pulled him closer, lips parted to kiss him more thoroughly this time. Back when he’d first kissed Kurt, Noah had never expected to find himself here. He figured he’d get fired eventually and end up back in Ohio, but he hadn’t planned on quitting his job or all the other stuff that had happened in between. He hadn’t counted on winding up a Senator’s Assistant, and he definitely hadn’t expected the First Family to welcome him like he was one of their own.

That didn’t make him feel any less weird about staying in President Hummel’s house, but if this was where Kurt wanted to be, Noah would be there too.
