tl;dr

It is possible I just impulse purchased these boots on my lunch hour. I started out looking for some wine-colored boots to replace the already-trashed platform boots I got at the thrift store for nine dollars. I wanted real leather so they would hold up instead of cracking the way the thrift store boots have (before I even bought them; you get what you pay for.) I did not find what I was looking for, but I found those biker boots instead, and OH EM GEE they are gorgeous. They only had two pairs left in a size 6, so I had to do it. It was a moral imperative!

I'm a little worried they won't fit. This is why I don't buy shoes online; they arrive, they're too big/small/weird/whatever, and I'm disappointed. And left with the hassle of returning. I wear a 6 as a general rule, but in cowboy boots I'm a 6 1/2 because of the narrow instep. If these are narrow like that they might not work. Fingers crossed, though, because they don't have a 6 1/2.

So much for my black cowboy boot budget. I'll have to start saving up again. You guys, I am going to be broke forever! But I'll look great the whole time.

(I also have a problem with impulse shopping on Avon's website. I love makeup! I can't help myself, though, they always have good deals. And I am super in love with their Big Color Eye Pencils. After my last makeup binge I own every shade except the vanilla, and I'm regretting passing on that one. I just wish they had a decent brown.)

Do you know what I realized yesterday? I am so screwed if I don't get cracking on my big bang fic. So this morning I buckled down and upped my word count to just over 6000. That's nearly halfway to the minimum. Sort of. If you aren't picky about math. My story, of course, has just begun, because that's how I roll. I know the basic layout (as does, I'm sure, anyone who's ever read anything I've written) so it shouldn't be too hard to power through by the deadline. Which is much sooner than I thought! Oops.

This weekend I did a little organizational work on my actual novel as well, so one of these days very soon I am going to get that moving forward again. I'm giving myself permission to write the big bang fic...not badly, exactly, but not up to my usual obsessive standards, detail-wise. Mostly I just need to finish it so I can move on to working on something that might make me a little money someday. So I can buy some more boots, of course.

And that is what's going on with me lately. My life is totally boring! There was writing group Saturday night, but it was kind of a fiasco. I'm too tired to describe the gross dude with his books about 'false allegations of child abuse' (define 'false', Creeper) or the lady who thinks she's BFF with John Travolta, or the dude who brought a huge, laminated panoramic photograph of his property in an attempt to lure us all out there so he could kill us and wear our skin wouldn't have to drive an hour into town for writer's group. Because it's so much more fair for the other fifteen of us to drive the hour instead! Then there was Raging Control Issues Guy, who nearly hit me in the face about fifteen times, and the group leader herself, who has never written a word but finds herself endlessly fascinating nonetheless.

It was good times! Maybe something will come of it. Time will tell. In the meantime I will continue to mock the entire experience here, I'm sure. I did tell them I'd gather some resources for them, since none of them know a goddamn thing about the publishing industry, apparently, so I should get on that. It is sad that I was one of the most knowledgeable people there in terms of what it takes to write and publish a book.

ETA: My favorite coworker (who is also obsessed with Deadliest Catch) informed me yesterday that that punk Jake Harris got himself arrested for DUI. Ugh. Jake, you dumbass. Poor, poor dumbass.
