A few years ago I had a brief love affair with
Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. I collected quite a few imps and several bottles of scents, most of which are still sitting untouched in the cabinet below my guest bathroom sink. I keep meaning to put them on eBay. It just never happens.
Anyway, recently I used the last of my ancient bottle of Gucci Envy, and rather than replace it I rediscovered some of my favorite BPAL scents. The one I am wearing pretty much daily at the moment is
Paris. Here is the description from the website:
Paris: Sensual, decadent, and enigmatic. Lavender, softly underscored by lotus and spice.
It's lovely and really does invoke Paris a bit, which I will never complain about. The funny part is I don't really like the scent of lavender, as a general rule, but the lotus and spice makes it work for me. I suppose it cuts the cloying sweetness enough without losing the essence of the herb.
My point is that those little 5 ml bottles don't go all that far, even in quality perfumer's alcohol, so I am going to have to order more soon. In browsing the descriptions on the Wanderlust page, I'm pretty tempted by the Shanghai as well (The crisp, clean scent of green tea touched with lemon verbena and honeysuckle.) I have a feeling my love affair with BPAL is about to be rekindled.
(So if anyone has an imp of Shanghai they're not using, I'd trade you for something I've got hanging around. I'm not sure what all I've got, but I'd be happy to look if you're interested in a trade.)
Day 03 → Your favourite television program
This one is easy. Picture it: Summer of 1990. I am fresh out of high school and living with my sister in a trashy one-bedroom apartment in Tucson, Arizona. We are both broke college students (well, I hadn't actually started classes yet), so we spend our days in the air conditioning, working out and eating carbs, and our evenings watching TV. Our favorite shows include "Friday the 13th: The Series" and a quirky mid-summer replacement series about a Manhattan doctor who lands himself in the middle of Nowheresville, Alaska.
Thus began my love affair with
Northern Exposure. My go-to comfort episode is still
4x21, "The Big Feast". Nearly 20 years (!) after its premiere, it remains my favorite show, I guess because I relate so very well to the fish out of water story. And let's face it, EVERYONE on that show was a fish out of water. But they manage to make a community out of a whole slew of disparate characters, and I suppose that's what I've been searching for ever since.
Of course I will probably never find it, because real life is not a television show. But that doesn't stop me from loving the universe (even the disastrous final season, Chris/Maggie notwithstanding). And you better believe I Mary Sued the hell out of it. No one will ever, ever see that fic, but I won't deny that I wrote it.
I even went on the Pilgrimage to Roslyn, WA while I was living up that way. I guess that makes me a fangirl before I even realized there was such a thing :) And yes, somewhere there exists a picture of me standing in front of the
Roslyn('s) Cafe sign.
