not that I am actually working on my novel or anything

+ Say someone wanted to read some good, in-character Abby/McGee fic. Where would one find something like that? I am not really fussed about subject matter, though shippy and still IC would be a bonus. Theoretically, of course. It's not like I watch the show or anything ( Read more... )

One of my flist gave me a code, but honestly I don't know what to do with it. It's not like I post to LJ all that much anyway. Still, I took the code, said thanks and signed up. Wierd.

I would enjoy seeing the novel approach (HA!) to using your DW space. It makes perfect sense to have a seperate space for that. If I was one of the ones you had sortofintendedtoannoy? annoy away.

(Go for the CM fic. Just saying..)

I share your ambivalence about DW. I have no desire to crosspost. I want a journal that is like the Golden Notebook where everything melds into one perfect book/journal, beyond divisions between genres, genders, or even a general sense of individuation.

But then as I recall in Lessing's novel, the whole section written as the Golden Notebook was the part where she was Crazy.

Exactly. I can barely cope with my diet journal and my fandom journal, I'm just not sure why I would need *two* fandom journals, let alone why I would need to crosspost all over the place. Other than the fact that all of fandom has not abandoned LJ for DW, and the DW enthusiasts don't want to talk to the very echo-y walls over there, so they're trying to have their cake and eat it too.

Which is fine, I suppose? But if you're still using LJ to garner attention for your Very Important Thoughts, don't force other people to use a different platform to chime in on what type of breakfast cereal you should eat at 3:00 am, you know?

So far you, me, and egretplume are all on the same page with DW it seems. And yeah, I also find it REALLY annoying if people dsable comments on LJ, essentially forcing you over to DW. What if I didn't want to, thank you very much?

Yeah, there seems to be a disconnect between the 'DW is OMGSOCOOL' people and the 'I am still using LJ, would you turn the fucking comments back on if you're going to spam my friends list with crossposts' people. Ah, well. It wouldn't be fandom if there weren't some dramarama going on.

During racefail etc., I friended a bunch of people who said interesting things, though they didn't necessarily friend me back, which was cool of course. Or it was cool until some of them started this disabled comments, follow me to DW thing, and I dropped them from the flist.

So I find the disabled comments thing I will accept grumblingly from mutual friends I have known/read for some time, but it gets newly-friended or non-mutual people dropped.

And of course I could just follow them on DW and add them to my reading list and I'm sure they'll be just as interesting, but it doesn't feel the same. In theory, it should feel better, because of the split between reading and granting access, without the "friend" emotional baggage. But that doesn't seem to be working with me.

But it's still pretty much the same thing, and it can add an extra level of "I find your posts interesting but I don't want you to be able to read mine" (people always find reason for drama).

I also just find people changing names of things to make it sound less whatever never works. They call special ed "exceptional child education" in my school district, but we ALL still know it's special ed. The same kids who would have been embarrassed about being special ed are still embarrassed about being ECE. All it did was have us use a term that no one outside of our district understands.

But you're not leaving LJ, right? I'm so scared of my entire f-list abandoning ship!

No, not even remotely. Here is where I will stay until *my* entire flist abandons ship, and it doesn't look like that's really happening.

Thank Goodness! I'm already losing one friend to DW. I don't get it, it's not even as nice as LJ. I think it's just popular b/c it's difficult to join. Those kinds of exclusionary tactics always work toward getting people to join a fad.

okay if your going to use DW to post original word counts ECT you need to find me a invite code :-)

I don't have any, I'm sad to say. But really, I think I would end up cross-posting anyway, and really, what is the point of that? So it probably won't happen. If I ever do get my hands on codes you will be among the first to know, however.

Okay that's good to know. If you do do it though I will be able to at least read it right?

Absolutely. I guess if I bothered to use it for anything, it would be to cut down on spam over here. But the more I think about it the less I am likely to post anything over there ever, so I guess I'll just keep on spamming in a centralized location :)
