Oh, Hodgins. So broken. DON'T WORRY BB WE ARE GOING TO FIX YOU. WE ARE ALREADY WORKING ON IT IN CASE YOU HADN'T NOTICED. And by we, I mostly mean me, because I have waaaaaay too much free time.
Guest starring Brendan Fehr. Yayayayayayayayay!!! Aw, Brendan. It's always nice to see you, baby.
I'm not generally a big fan of 'exposition by ghost', personally. Don't get me wrong; I love a good ghost story. But exposition by ghost is not a good ghost story so much as it's a monologue with two narrators. And that's sort of cheating, frankly. I'm not saying it didn't tug at my heartstrings, okay? I am not completely without feeling. I just think it's kind of lazy storytelling is all.
As for the actual case, it is nice to see them tying up the Gravedigger business. I've always wondered if they were going to get around to it. I just wish the denouement didn't suck so bad. I mean, really? The Gravedigger is some random FBI chick? That's so...anticlimactic.
So let's talk about Hodgins and Wendell instead.
How much do I love that Hodgins wasn't going to the fancy soiree? SO much. I mean, I know he doesn't do those things, as a general rule. But I prefer to believe that he was on the way to Wendell's dorm to pick him up for their fifth date. He wasn't really feeling it, mostly because he knew he stole the Gravedigger evidence, and he didn't want to brood all over Wendell and make him think Hodgins wasn't into him. Though, four dates in he's still wondering what the hell he's doing, to be honest. So that's all wrapped up in everything else that's going on, and then Brennan throws out the 'I don't trust him' thing, and Hodgins is feeling pretty low when he gets the call about Booth's kidnapping and calls Wendell to break the date.
Which leaves Wendell kind of twisting, because Hodgins doesn't really tell him anything, so he has to find out the details through hurried phone calls between classes as the case unfolds.
And can you imagine how he's going to feel when he finds out that Hodgins almost got arrested and then blown up? Only four dates into whatever they're doing, and he's not even sure, but he's way more emotionally invested than he wanted to be, and now he's got to hide the fact that he's panicking, and he doesn't know how to help Hodgins put the pieces back together. But that doesn't stop him from opening the door when Hodgins shows up late at night, strung out and wired and looking to burn a little adrenaline. He doesn't make Hodgins talk about it or ask a bunch of dumb questions about why he was so obsessed with catching the Gravedigger. Because he doesn't get it, but he can imagine what Hodgins is feeling, and that's good enough.
The next morning when he wakes up, Hodgins is still there, fast asleep in his narrow dorm bed, tangled in his cheap sheets and drooling on Wendell's pillow. He looked relaxed, finally, and Wendell doesn't want to wake him. But he has to go to class eventually, and Hodgins is probably going to want to show up at work at some point. So he runs a hand down Hodgins' back, and when that doesn't work he kisses the back of his neck, starting at Hodgins' hairline and moving down his spine. He's halfway down Hodgins' back when Hodgins lets out a 'hmm' and turns over to smile up at him. And it's the sunny, open smile he's starting to get used to, the one he only really sees when they're alone, or when Hodgins finds a really good piece of evidence.
He knows a decent night's sleep doesn't magically erase all the stuff Hodgins has been through in the past couple years. He knows it's still in there somewhere, and if they stay together they're going to have to deal with it eventually. But Hodgins showed up on his doorstep when he could have gone anywhere, and that's a pretty big thing.
And that's what I was thinking about during this episode. Because apparently my happy het fandom is all about Wendell/Hodgins now. And I don't even care.

Edit:
I just fell a little more in love with Pam. I didn't know that was possible.
And oh, Andy. Just platonically date Oscar for awhile. It will make you happier, I promise. You don't have to kiss him or anything, I just want to see you two hang out.
I mean, eventually Oscar would want to kill him, and I know Andy's not gay, but I love the way they are together.

No CSI tonight. I'm working on making my own.
I fucking love that Alec Baldwin Hulu commercial. I can't stand Alec Baldwin, but man, that is funny.
