Fic: (BWOC, Tommy/Merton, PG)

Hello! And welcome to the third annual musical advent calendar. As you may remember from previous years, I like to count down the days until Christmas by sharing some of my favorite music with you all. There are some holiday songs in here, mostly non-traditional, as well as some other music that I just like.

But this year I decided to do something a little different. This year, instead of just posting a song, I will also be posting a fic to go with it. Some are longer than others, some correspond to the song and some don't, and some I'm not really sure I should be posting at all. But this was an exercise to see if I could break my ongoing writer's block after a long, long time, and I'm pleased to say that that part, at least, was successful. There's a different pairing for every day, though some pairings you will see more than once. I'm sort of excited about it, and I hope you will be too.

I'm starting things off with a little Tommy/Merton. This sort of relates to my movieverse series, only with 100% less porn. It doesn't have anything to do with today's song, which is a fun selection from A John Waters Christmas, hand-picked for you by Mr. John Waters himself. I thought it sort of suited Tommy and Merton. Merton, anyway. Enjoy!

They keep up the movie night tradition long after high school graduation. They missed a few Fridays while Merton was off in Germany, but as soon as he got back they picked right up where they left off. They missed a lot of keg parties during college, and Tommy gave up a few nights out with the team, but he was second string for the first two years anyway, and by the time he was the star quarterback the rest of the guys were used to him bailing on Friday night parties.

He's never missed any of that, though, not when he has movie night to look forward to. And they've watched a lot of bad movies over the year, but this one's pretty awful even by Merton's standards.

"Christmas Evil? Seriously?"

"It's a classic," Merton says, settling down next to him and handing over the popcorn. Tommy takes the bowl and balances it on his lap, sliding his other arm around Merton's shoulders to pull him a little closer.

"I didn't even know there were Christmas-themed horror movies. Isn't that one of those…octo…oxy…"

"Oxymorons," Merton supplies patiently. "And not exactly. Christmas has traditionally been traumatic for lots of people. There are lots of suicides around the holiday. Haven't you ever seen Gremlins?"

He has, but he doesn't get what that has to do anything. He opens his mouth to say so when the movie starts, and suddenly Santa's going down on some kid's mom while the kid spies on them. Which…okay, he could see how that could be a little traumatic, but a lot of kids walk in on their parents and they don't end up as horror movie killers.

"I don't get it. The kid becomes a killer because he saw his mom having sex with Santa?"

"No," Merton says, using that voice that implies Tommy should know these things. "He's so traumatized to discover that Santa isn't real that he becomes obsessed. It takes over his whole life, and when the fantasy collides with the cold, hard reality of 1980, he snaps. It's one of the best of the Christmas horror films. Besides, I thought it would put us in a Christmas mood."

Tommy laughs at that, because only Merton would think a killer Santa was festive. Especially when they'd dealt with their own real life Christmas horror story in the form of Roger Claus. But that was way back in high school, and Tommy's mostly over it. Besides, he doesn't really care what they're watching as long as there's popcorn and Merton. And popcorn-scented Merton, he muses as he catches Merton's hand, lifting it to his mouth to suck butter and salt off his fingers.

"What were you saying about getting in the mood?"

Merton's probably the only person in the world who would laugh at a joke as lame as that one - at least he would if he were listening, but he's staring at Tommy's mouth and he's definitely not laughing. His lips are parted, breath a little shallower than it was a minute ago, and it's nice to know that after five years together, Tommy still has this effect on him. He licks the tip of each finger one more time before he lets go, setting Merton's hand down on his thigh and turning back to the movie.

"If I'd known you had an evil Santa kink I would have rented Silent Night, Deadly Night too," Merton says, voice sort of breathy and Tommy laughs and leans into him long enough to press a kiss to the tip of his very red ear.

"Believe me, Merton, it's not Santa," Tommy assures him. "Anyway, I was thinking there are other things we could do tonight besides watch another movie."

"Other things are good," Merton answers, reaching for the remote and turning off the DVD. "In fact, I think we should talk about some of those other things right now."

There have been a lot of Friday movie nights that ended exactly like this. Their first kiss happened on a movie night, the first time they had sex and the first time Tommy said 'I love you'. Movie night isn't the most exciting tradition ever, Tommy thinks as he grins and pushes Merton back onto the couch, but he wouldn't give it up for anything.
