It's so cold in here that I'm reduced to drinking the herbal tea I found in the back of the breakroom cupboard just to keep my body temperature above freezing. None of my characters will speak to me and I'm so bored that I was reduced to finishing my homework, for God's sake, but reading made me even colder so now I'm just typing to keep the circulation in my fingers.
Harlan's being difficult, Marcus isn't being any better, and Nick and Greg are off making out in a corner somewhere. The sooper sekrit fic project is at a dead stop an embarrassing four paragraphs in, and the internet and Canadian holidays are conspiring to bore me to death. Therefore I amuse myself the only way I know how: extremely rare femmeslash.

Megan's avoiding her. They haven't spoken since that day in her bathroom, since the not-quite-kiss that didn't have to mean anything, but definitely did. It must have, because Megan barely looks at her when they're in sitting at the lunch table and she's careful never to let Victoria get her alone. And Victoria knows how to take a hint, so she'd leave Megan alone if that was what she really wanted. But every time Victoria looks Megan's watching, a pretty blush staining her cheeks as she looks away and after a few days of that Victoria decides it's time to do something about it.
She waits until Friday night, early in the game before Lex lets himself get distracted by Roger. It's easy enough to find Megan; they've been playing the game for years now and Megan always comes in the same entrance, always takes the same route through the school. And if the game was based on sneaking up on each other Megan would be the first to die every week, but her predictability works in Victoria's favor, so she's not going to complain.
When Megan rounds the corner across from the gym Victoria's waiting for her, arms crossed over her chest and a smug smile on her lips. "You've been avoiding me."
Megan starts at the sound of her voice, a soft gasp escaping her lips and Victoria wonders idly if that's what she sounds like when she comes. "Victoria? What are you doing?"
"Looking for you," Victoria answers, smiling as sweetly as she knows how and pushing herself off the wall to walk toward Megan.
Two steps, then three and they're barely a foot apart, tension and something else radiating off Megan and there's a part of Victoria that wants to reach out and take. She's pretty sure Megan wouldn't push her away - not right away, anyway - but Megan's avoided her for the better part of a week and if Victoria moves too fast she might get the silent treatment for even longer next time.
"I thought we were friends, Megan."
"We…we are," Megan says, eyes wide and even in the dark hallway Victoria can see that she's trembling a little.
"Friends don't ignore each other when something's bothering them," Victoria says, smile fading to something close to sadness. She shakes her head and takes another half-step toward Megan, suppressing a smile when Megan flinches but doesn't move backwards. "And there's definitely something bothering you."
"No there's…"
"And I think I know what it is," Victoria interrupts, talking over Megan as though she didn't even hear her.
It's too dark in the school to see, but she's pretty sure Megan's blushing. Her eyes are even wider now, bright and terrified and Victoria wonders if she's pushing too hard. But Megan's not trying to get away, not making up excuses about the game and wherever the hell Lex wants them tonight. She's not doing anything except staring at Victoria as though she's waiting for something, and when Victoria sways a little closer she hears Megan's breath catch in her throat.
"We can pretend it didn't happen," Victoria whispers, gaze fixed on Megan's mouth and she wasn't really planning any of this, but she finds herself leaning forward anyway, "if you want."
Part of her expects Megan to push her away. She keeps waiting for hands to land on her, for Megan to push her backwards and tell Victoria that she's not interested. Until the moment their lips meet for the second time she expects Megan to tell her no, that she's wrong and this is the last thing Megan wants.
For a second Megan doesn't react at all; she doesn't push Victoria away, but she doesn't kiss her back either. Then Victoria slides a hand behind her neck, fingers brushing the soft hairs at her nape and Megan makes a surprised sound in the back of her throat and surges forward, hands leaving her sides to grip Victoria's shoulders hard. Her lips part under Victoria's, kissing her back with an intensity that's more desperate than practiced.
And until now Victoria's never really been sure if this is Megan's first kiss; she knows how long Megan's been hung up on Lex, but she has no idea if there's ever been anyone else. If Megan's ever practiced on any other guys, tried to distract herself from Lex with whoever happened to be around at the time.
She should have known better, because Megan's the most loyal person she knows, and there's a part of Victoria that expects Megan to stay loyal to Lex even now that he's fucking Roger. But Megan's not kissing her like she feels guilty, and her fingers are digging into Victoria's skin hard enough to tell Victoria just how much she wants this. Just how much she's been thinking about it since that confusing moment in her bathroom, the one that left them both wanting more.
Victoria's tongue slides along Megan's lip, surprising a gasp out of her and when Megan's mouth opens Victoria slides her tongue inside. There are too many layers of fabric between them, velvet sliding against satin and she wishes they weren't wearing their costumes, because for all the times she's fantasized about kissing Megan while she was dressed like this, it's more cumbersome than it is romantic.
Because she wants to touch, wants to slide her fingers along smooth, hot skin and feel Megan shiver, wants to trace the curve of her shoulders and the thin skin inside her elbow. Wants to mouth her way along Megan's neck, push a leg between her thighs just to feel Megan push back against her, little moans escaping her throat and letting Victoria know just how much she wants this.
She wants to slide a hand up under Megan's skirt, inside her panties to feel how much Megan wants her, but they're still standing in the middle of the hall and anyone could come along and find them. And now she really wishes she'd planned this better, gone to Megan's house or even cornered her in the ladies' room, because as soon as Megan remembers where they are this is all going to be over.
As soon as she thinks it Lex's voice fills the air, smug and amused and she growls low in her throat when Megan tenses and pulls away.
"Megan," Lex says, and Victoria wonders if he can see them from wherever he's hiding, "meet Kip in the cafeteria. Take the clue he's holding, if you can. Whoever wins your battle should meet Roger in the Biology lab."
Victoria rolls her eyes, lips parted to suggest that Megan ignore Lex's orders for once in her life and stay right where she is. She wants to blow off the game and go back to her house, to figure out what they're doing or at least finish what they started. But Megan's already backing away, hands easing off Victoria's shoulders and lips still wet from the kiss.
"I…I'd better go," she stammers, looking everywhere but at Victoria.
"When Lex says jump," Victoria murmurs, bitterness creeping into her tone and when Megan flinches Victoria knows she heard it. For a second she thinks Megan's going to say something else, maybe stumble her way through an apology or a lame 'see you later'. Instead she turns and hurries down the hall, walking as fast as she can without actually breaking into a run. Her skirt flows out behind her, hair falling on one side where Victoria tugged it loose and in the darkness she really does look the part of some magic creature.
Victoria watches her go, lips pressed tight together and she could kill Lex for his timing. For a second she considers tracking him down and finding out whether he did it on purpose or not, if he's spying on Megan and torturing her just because he can. But she knows Lex won't tell her the truth, and even if he did interrupt them on purpose Victoria's not entirely sure Lex realizes what he's doing to Megan.
She thinks about explaining it to him, warning him off with threats about Roger if she has to, but Megan and Lex are still friends and there's no guarantee Lex wouldn't tell Megan everything Victoria said. So she has no choice but to swallow her frustration and bide her time. And she can live with that, because at least part of Megan wants more, and Victoria's not going to give up until she gets what she wants.

And it's finally time to go home. Thank God.
