*does a little gleeful dance* Fic! It's so nice to find some good fic when I've got nothing to do tonight.

Nothing to do? Isn't that, like, against the law when you're on a brand-new continent? Ah, well, I'm glad I could offer a little passing entertainment. I write so little these days that it's kind of a novelty even for me.

See, it's fresher's week, ans despite all the mocking America gets for college students being obsessed with driking, the entire entertainment for the week revolves around dirnking. I thought I'd pass on tonight's foam party because...yeah...foam party. I'm slowly meeting the geeky people that are here - it just takes some effort.

Well I hope you're having a good time in spite of the drinking culture. Although I cannot believe any part of Europe has the audacity to mock Americans for college age drinking considering that drinking is absolutely a way of life there. At least it is in every part of Europe I've spent any time in.

But that's neither here nor there. Hopefully once school's in full swing things will be easier.

Yeah. They're all "if your drinking age was lower, it wouldn't be so bad" blah blah blah. But, you know, I find it the same - if not worse - here; it's just that here everyone can go drink in public and not just at parties. But, then, someone actually said to me that they thought all Americans smoked, and they all seem to base their perceptions of us on Hollywood, so it seems that they aren't as smart as they want us to think they are. And then there was my advisor responding to my wirries of finding a 200 level course too easy by looking at my transcript, saying I hadn't taken much Biology (only The Cell, The Organism, Genetics, Animal Behavior, and Integrative Plane Biology, after all), and that I'd probably find it "really challenging." Please. Small schools like mine may mean that I'm not as specialized in any branch of biology, but it doesn't mean that I'm stupid. And it least our registration system works efficiently.

But, yeah, I have every faith that things will get better once classes start. Hopefully.

I'm sorry you're having some problems getting into the swing of things. I can't believe any advisor would imply that you're stupid, but my opinion of academic bureacrats is not the highest. Once things get going you'll have a much better time. And if not, we're all here to listen.

Thanks. I think I mihgt have just overreacted to the comment, but it still annoyed the crap out of me. But, yeah, I'm sure things will get better soon. Once classes start, I should be meeting people other than the somewhat immature freshmen I've met so far, so that should be good, at least.
