the beginning of this, nathan and drew- oh my goodness. just from the very beginning, i love your descriptions- laughing eyes and breathless voice. and then the night- the imagery so sharp you can feel the chill and hear the twigs crack. and the boys- so desperate, so desperately sad, so caught up in each other and struggling and scared and helpless and longing for what they could never have at that time. just from those few short paragraphs, you drew such a poignant picture of how very deeply they felt about each other. and then drew's death, oh my. it's like a sucker punch.
the terror of disease is also apparent- this fic really brought that home for me. growing up now, children and teenagers- well, young adult now, i guess- like me know about AIDS and its dangers, but when you don't know anyone with the disease and you know of antiretroviral drugs and condoms and all the ways they've made the disease bearable, the true horror of it doesn't hit home. most people, me included, wouldn't think of the abject terror this disease caused, the stigma, how it was like doom- a death sentence. how people and officials were ignorant and prejudiced. this fic has helped me grasp that a little.
i don't think anyone else could bring home the morbidity of that katy perry line like you did. the realization that blaine is this boy's son...
[i will read this slowly so i can savour it, and because comments can only be done properly if the story is savoured; and because a story like this deserves epic reviewing.]
