1) How did you get into football?
American football: I grew up watching with my dad, but never followed a particular team. As a general rule, I like to see Seattle sports teams do well, though. When I met and started dating Mark, he's a big Saints fans so I started watching with him and now I root for the Saints. :)
English football/soccer: I grew up playing soccer. I played for years. I was awful. Terrible. I have the world's shortest attention span and would be off staring at a dandelion on the field instead of following the ball. My sister thinks it is hysterical that I watch now considering my own lack of talent.
However, when I first moved to DC I wanted to take advantage of the sports and cultural offerings. One of the things I did was go to every professional sports event I could think of. I went to a WNBA Mystics game, a Wizards game, a Capitals game.I went to Baltimore to see the Orioles play. I also sent to see DC United play. I like watching pretty much all sports every once in a while but for some reason DC United really clicked with me. So I kept going back.
2) What did you and Mark do on your first date?
It's not TOO terribly exciting. I met Mark at least a year before we started dating. He is a big soccer fan and that's how we met - before DC United games a lot of fans tailgate together. Same with US games. I met him hanging out at the DC United tailgates and would run into him traveling to US games in other cities. So on our first date we ended up meeting for dinner at a restaurant downtown and then we took the metro out to Virginia to watch DC United play an away game at a sports bar. Or maybe it was a US game, I should really remember. Either way, we ran into a bunch of friends there and they were all annoying about how we showed up together.
3) If I came to spend a day with you there, what would we do?
Ooh! Well, I would magically arrange for you to be here August 9th so we could admire David Beckham playing! Other than that, all I know is that I'd take you to some of my favorite restaurants because you're such a foodie and there would HAVE to be a Sephora visit. :) Maybe a car trip to Sweet Briar if you wanted to go down memory lane?
4) Tell me something you remember from 1987
Thankfully, I remember very little...I realized the other day I bought one of my first tapes in 1987 - The Beastie Boys, Licensed to Ill. I can't believe I've been listening to ANYTHING for 20 years. That makes me feel old. But, I guess, not as old as the Beasties....
5) If you could live in another era, what time period would you choose? Not the twenties. What did women with breasts do then? Umm...maybe the Edwardian era. Late enough so there's less scary stuff to die from, and even when one is dismissed as a "mere female" at least you have some opportunities. Plus they had nice hair.
Jdnumber18 (I totally forgot how to do username tags), how was your birthday? Elena-whose-user-name-I-can't-remember, how are you doing?
