Mimi has been running around, meowing, pawing at me to pick her up, more meowing. She is behaving like a female cat in heat, but she's been fixed since mid-kittenhood. So today I opened a window in the computer room, where the ground comes up to the sill outside, & let her and Maurice outdoors.
They are both wary & hang out in the open window before actually heading out, one paw at a time, s-l-o-w-l-y. The two have been outside only once before and never without snow all around. The ground beside the house is warmer than farther out, so the snow is gone there in a strip the length of the bedroom wing. The kitties wander up and down the strip of dirt & grass, keeping close to the ground like low-riders, moving only their paws. They are so interested in the bushes & trees growing across a swathe of snow covered ground.
John and I watched the kitties from a vantage point at one of the living room windows, which confused Mimi. She kept returning to the slightly open window she emerged from, but we were watching her from a different window - one that doesn't open. She came over & put her nose up to my face (now the glass needs cleaning in that spot), pawed at the glass. I went into the computer room to the open window & called, she came but nope, didn't want to come in ... yet.
The two kittens stayed out in the cold & snow for about 10 minutes, came in finally, and now are napping together in their basket. They are sooo cute.
