Tis the Season...

It was a beautiful, snowy day. John shoveled the driveway clear, finishing just as the town plow roared past refilling the entrance. This always happens & John always stamps and growls into the house to tell me about it. There must be a law or something. It makes me laugh & then he needs a cup of hot tea or cocoa.

Maurice and I pulled a rocking chair up to the front window to watch the activity at the bird feeder. We saw chickadees, slate colored junkos and a sparrow. The sparrow seemed out of place; there was just one & I thought sparrows migrated south. The chickadees ate from the feeder while the juncos mostly pecked around in the snow at the base. The sparrow dug with one foot to move the snow. he appeared to be left footed.

We put on a Christmas music cd & watched the feeder until dark, then closed the blinds & moved our chair closer to the fire & picked up the book section of the Sunday Times to catch up on what the reviewers have to say. Reading the reviews is almost as good as reading some of the books.

John and I have been watching the Hallmark Channel this week as it shows one Christmas story after another. Since our usual fare is CIS and NCIS or Law & Order, a week or three of lovely, if sometimes hokey, stories is much nicer than murder & gore. I'm enjoying these stories. Last night we watched a Dickens' knock-off about a female store owner named Ebbie Scrooge & her shenannigans. She got heart at the end, bought a poor family a turkey, made up with her adult niece, daughter of a beloved but expired too young sister. I think you sort of know the story line.

Decorating is a slow process for me. Some years I never quite get around to it. This year I have the wreaths up already!
