This evening I got to watch as George, Julie, Annie, Duncan, and two others did a movie shoot in the parking lot of Haniford grocery in Portland.
George has written this short screen play called I Was Jesus and Dracula. He is also the director & Julie is the Producer. Annie is the helper & Duncan is one of the stars. The other two actors who were in this scene answered an invitation to the public to try out for the film. They are good sports & pretty good actors. There are several other people in the film, but this one scene they shot only needed this group.
It was colder than a witch's heart outside & everyone was beginning to freeze as shots were done & redone & changed angle to redo again. Making a film with only one camera requires these "instant replays" while the cameraman changes his own location & angle. The crew were amazing in their patience & "the show must go on" attitude.
I sat in Julie's car with the motor going & the heat blasting. Sweet. Once in a while one of the crew would jump in beside me to warm up, then have to get back to work. Julie and K left before the scene was completed because her business there was over - also one of the actors left as soon as they didn't need her anymore. It is hard work, doing those bits over and over = exhausting.
Can't wait to see the results of this evening's filming. George does the editing himself.
I hope it comes to the conclusion Julie and George first envisioned - the beginning of a new career in film making.
