I braved the crowds at the sales today and went up to Oxford Street to look for a pair of shoes. Nothing too exciting, just some plain navy court shoes mostly for work. Could I find such a thing? Of course not! I could find pointy shoes, perfect for genies or people with nice narrow feet (ie not me), or shoes with heels as high as a tall and very high thing. Or both. And there didn't seem to be anything in navy, only black, and I have more pairs of black shoes than anyone really needs.
I did see some lovely boots by Lulu Guiness in Selfridges. Dark turquoise blue, beautiful soft leather, non-pointy toes, heels highish but not "Naomi Campell falling off a catwalk" high. And they were reduced - from £450 to £250! A mere snip. I tried them on of course and was quite pleased that they were rather uncomfortable or I'd probably have been sorely tempted to buy them, even though I don't have a single thing that they could be worn with.
So I came home with a new jacket which had been substantially reduced (from M&S), some new underwear, socks and tights (from M&S) and some nice long-sleeved tee-shirts in various colours (from M&S). Hmmm, I'm seeing a pattern there. Ooh, and I also bought the boxed sets of Battlestar Galactica Season 1 and Season 5 of The West Wing (since Channel Four have skipped from Season 4 to Season 6). Both were at extremely good prices (HMV sale) though maybe if I go to Play.com or Amazon I'll find both cheaper. So I won't go and look.
