I'm from Australia and it was mainly on the news that I heard about the war. It didn't really register with me immediately, because it was the last in a succession of political events concerning the US. It wasn't as shocking to people. For example, after the 9/11 tragedy, I remember going to school and seeing US bandannas everywhere. Everyone was really affected by it. War in Iraq didn't hit everyone that hard.
There were the protests and everything, because our fool of a Prime Minister insisted on sending Australian soldiers over to Iraq (but then, he's always been up Bush's arse, so I wasn't surprised). I don't think we should have been involved, but there you go. We were.
What has the war done to me? Well, I began to take more of an interest in politics after that. I'll admit to having fears that Australia would be next, but I realise it's all the same anyway. I think I've become numb to the fear associated with war. I worry that I'm starting to become numb to the idea of all the innocent people being tortured or killed. Nothing is ever done about it. I just sent a webpage I got from Mini Mac's journal to a friend from school and her reply was "Yeah, it's bad. But what can you do?" Does raising awareness account for anything? Apparently not.
So there, that's my rant. Sorry if I bored you.
