I have an audio cable jack that was built into my car and that is the only way I would ever listen to an iPod in a car. I know that if you buy a satellite radio receiver for your car, that also has an audio jack.

They sell radio transmitters that can charge your iPod while broadcasting your music on whatever radio frequency you choose. I used to have one in my old car. I've heard that people in the next car can even tune in- I'm pretty sure I've tuned in to some of those. Anyway, the equipment works, but you'll never get CD-quality sound and you'll have to jack up the volume on either your iPod or the radio.

You can't leave it in the car overnight in the winter or in a hot car in the summer because the transmitter will stop working. Also, if you're traveling you'll have to change stations every so often to get a better signal, and if your car's antenna is on the back of the car your reception will suck much of the time because the radio signal has to travel a whole six feet to the antenna. It's all a frigging pain in the ass. Alicia had my old one in my mom's car for awhile, but she gave up on it.

If you're going to keep your car for a few years you should strongly consider either buying a satellite radio receiver (which is probably expensive) or go to CarTunes or wherever and see if they can install an audio jack (probably much cheaper). The audio cable itself is like $4. One end plugs into the headphones jack and the other end goes in the audio jack.
