Pets are an odd thing.
They creep up on you and steal your heart.
Bruce definately did that.
I came home today from work and found him laying on the bed, crying out loud.
I petted him and, as he tried to move, his back legs looked like they weren't moving.
Long story short.. we took him to an Emergency vet and were told something we'd already known - he'd had a hard life before he came into our family.
Anyway, we left him there for the vet to care for, but not before I petted him - just in case it would be the last time.
I came home and had to go to bed.
An hour later, I awoke to the sound of C talking on the phone. I heard her crying.
The vet said he had a lot of heart disease and a blood clot had formed, cutting off the circulation to both of his legs.
He said we could spend a lot of money on him, but he'd effectively lost the use of his back legs.
Further, he'd never be the same and the situation would undoubtedly repeat itself.
He suggested we let him go... so we did.
Bruce was, like me, a bit of a freak.
And, as odd as it sounds coming from me, he was my friend.
I'm going to miss him.
