This morning I was sitting in class thinking about how much I wanted a doughnut. Our class was guest taught by Prof. Thomas-Slayter*, who is interesting, but I really just wanted a doughnut. I had this weird feeling that there were doughnuts upstairs (class is in the basement of IDCE) and as soon as she let us off on break, I dashed up to the kitchen for a look. Of course, there were no doughnuts and I had a very unsatisfying cup of cold water instead.
Flash forward three hours: I'm sitting on the can thinking about making bread. This leads me to think about the cool things I've ordered from amazon.com which will make bread making that much more fun. Then I get to the thought, wouldn't it be awkward if UPS rang the door bell while I'm sitting here with my pants around my ankles? The door bell rang right then. I had to rush around to clean up and then dashed down the stairs just in time to flag down the UPS truck driver before he drove away. It was definitely awkward. He said he was worried that the door bell didn't work. I just made noncommittal sounds as I grabbed the box from him.
The moral? My precognition is currently at 50 percent. That's cool, right?
*A class with Prof. Thomas-Slayter is like God coming down to the heathens and being like, "Oh you're all naked and stupid, here let me tell you some things..." She founded the IDCE department in the 1970s, but retired about 5 years ago. Like all academics, this is really just a semi-retirement, since a life of imparting knowledge keeps them eager for more. I chatted with her briefly after class, and she knows an amazing woman in Tanzania, who she may be able to get me in contact with. I really, really want to spend this summer researching HIV prevention in Tanzania!
