ICON POSTING TUTORIAL

Jan 01, 2011 16:23

Please bare with me. I've never done this before. If there are any mistakes, please point them out. It will be greatly appreciated. I do hope it's helpful to those of you who don't know how to post icons, graphics, general coding, etc. I know that when I first started here, I really wished to know coding and all that lol. Okay... -takes a deep breath- Here we go! :3

Annnnd, to get all my nifty little symbols and stuff, I go ►HERE◄.

Step o1 :

You're going to need your icons listed in a table. At the bottom of my icon posts, I have that link. Go there and you can list all your icons once you've uploaded them to a sight such as TinyPic or PhotoBucket. I'm about to show those of you who don't know how to do this. ;3

Step o2 :

The first image is what the table generator that I use will look like. Okay... so you upload your icons to the site you have an account at, whether it be TinyPic or Photobucket. With TinyPic, once you've uploaded your icon, you'll be taken to a page like PIC o3. I keep the window for the icon table generator I use open as well as TinyPic. You'll see why in just a minute.

Step o3 :

Oki. Here you just begin listing all the links to your uploaded icons. The color of the table and all that can be edited, but I don't change it really. I like it the way it is. As it says on the picture below, I just change the number of icons in a row. Also, I prefer to list my icon direct links as I upload them one-by-one. When it comes to TinyPic, it's a bit more tedious. With PhotoBucket, I think you can upload multiple icons. I unfortunately, cannot use the site for some reason. It crashes every time I try to log into my old account lol.

Step o4 :

Once you have all your icons listed and organized in the icon table generator, just click 'Submit' right below the little text box. You will get a page like the image below.

Step o5 :

When you wish to post icons, you go to the link circled in red. It depends on where you want your icons posted (whether it's in a community journal like mine, or a user journal). I just decided to make a community journal and call it my icon community. It made it easier because I didn't have to log out and into a completely different account. Some people prefer to have it on user accounts, though. It's really just your preference.

Step o6 :

Now, this is VERY important, as it says in red on the image. X3 If you do not have it set as HTML, none of your coding will show up. You could have everything else correct and ready to go, but it won't show up unless you have this selected.

Step o7 :

Alright, I'm just obsessed with keeping things in order, but this is how you select your tags for your posts. You can keep it as simple as just having tags : icons, headers, lovebars, banners, fan-made soundtracks. I have mine broken down by characters, games, anime/manga, photography, etc. This also helps people that are looking through your works. Say... if they like Claire Redfield, they can click the tag listed for Claire and see all other posts with Claire graphics.

Step o8 :

Copy all the coding and begin pasting it to the page for posting a LiveJournal entry. With the TEASER icons, you can upload the ones you think look best. I normally try to upload ones from every fandom I delved in. The regular number to have as listed TEASERS are three. I do four because I normally upload a large amount of icons at once. Set up all your rules and everything like you want them. Some people put them behind the lj-cut and some put them before the lj-cut. Just move the coding of the teaser icon where it shows in the 4th picture below. And finally, preview it to see if it looks right. Then, post it. :)
