nails: Christmas redux

Dec 21, 2020 19:58

Only took six years for me to pick up nail art again! I thought I'd be very rusty at it but it's like riding a bike. I mean, I was never fantastic to begin with. Anyway, this is a combo of the two previous manicures I did which were Christmassy.

Green and gold
Red gradient

Gold: Models Own shade not specified (came with the Nail Art Kit) x2 coats
Green: Picture Polish Kryptonite x2 coats
Black dots: Models Own Nail Art Pen
Red (orange): China Glaze Riveting x2 coats
Red (true red): Make Up Academy Shade 6 x1 coat
Red (crimson): NYX Girls Blood x1 coat
Red (glitter top): Models Own Scarlet Sparkle x1 coat

In natural light. Showing my right hand because I have a band-aid on my left.

Including the base and top coat, on some nails I have seven layers of polish, which seems ridiculous. I thought I'd try doing the diagonals without dots on top, and as expected, they looked too wonky. The dots really help. Unfortunately the dots did smear a bit from the top coat, and since the polish is really old, I couldn't use the dotting tip because it was blocked up and had to use the brush tip which isn't as easy to get a round shape.

In retrospect, having these alternating colours looks a little too chaotic/busy for a manicure. But I don't mind it since it's only for the holiday season and it'll probably chip away in five days.

Moral of the story: Merry Christmas, again!
