I arrive at work just in time. As I walk through the hallways of the building, it seemed different. The interior and everything was the same, it was just the atmosphere of the place. I reach my cubicle and slide over to the cubicle next to me with the chair.
“Hey, Ryo-chan, is it just me or does this place seem different?” I ask.
“It’s probably because of the new boss who just started today.” He says turning back to continue his computer work.
New boss?! I slide back over to my own desk and stare at the computer screen. I wonder what he’s like. Well, I’m going to have to see him now anyways. I get up and walk to the main office; which was about 8 cubicles away from mine. I knock at the door and wait about a second before I heard a “come in.”
“Ah, sorry to bother you-” I look at his nameplate, “Sakurai-san.”
He looked like he was looking for some papers, which was probably an extremely difficult task since there were papers strewn all over the desk. Judging by the state the whole office was in; he didn’t look like the type of person to clean. He looks at me and smiles. “Ninomiya-san, what brings you to my office?”
“Uh, I know this is our first time meeting, and I’m already asking for an irresponsible request, but would it be alright if I worked from home and brought in the paperwork and stuff here from time to time?” I say.
He looked surprised but otherwise still kept a composed face. “Well, I’ve looked over your records and heard great things about you, so it won’t be a big deal. But may I ask why?”
“Well, it’s for personal reason.” I say, while looking at him skeptically.
“Very well, sorry, I didn’t mean to pry. I expect the papers to be brought in every week on Fridays.” He turns back to looking for whatever he was looking for.
“Thank you.” I turn and walk out of the office.
I work through the whole day as quickly as I could, well, as quickly as I could with my thoughts clouded over with Satoshi. It still remained a mystery; I had no idea really what to do. Too bad there wasn’t someone to help me.
I clock out at work at 8 and walk to the train station. Normally Tokyo was busy, but for some reason, there weren’t too many people around. I walked inside of an alleyway for the shortcut when I heard footsteps behind me. Now that I think about it, it felt like I was being watched the whole day too. I pick up my steps and the stranger did too. I quickly turn around and the stranger bumps into me and we end up falling to the ground.
“Ouch.” The stranger says.
I quickly get up and look at the stranger on the ground.
“Masaki, GET UP. Angels aren’t supposed to bump into the people they’re following.” I snap my head to the other stranger. Since when was there two?!
The one on the ground groans then gets up with a little jump. “Hi! I’m Masaki!” The stranger with the name of Masaki says and sticks out his hand for a handshake.
I quirk up my eyebrows and just stare at him. It seemed like he didn’t take no as an answer as he pulled my hand into a handshake.
“We’re angels and we came to help you!” Masaki says.
“Idiot, we’re not helping him, just telling him the rules.” The other ‘angel’ with the thick eyebrows and strong facial features said.
“Wait, what do you mean ‘rules’?” I say and quickly snatch my hand back.
“Oh! Oh! Jun-chan, can I tell him pleaaaaseee?” Masaki says; almost in a whining tone.
Jun just sighs but otherwise gives a thumbs up to Masaki.
“YAY! Well, you know how time went back and you have your best friend back? - Well, we did it! Well, I mean me, since Jun-chan didn’t want to do help--” He turns to pout at Jun “-and now he’s back! But like Jun-chan said, there’s certain rules you have to follow.”
“Rules?” I say.
“Yup, rules. Well first off, since Ohno Satoshi’s memory is erased, you must not tell him of his past life. Second, you can’t change what you’ve already done. Lastly, remember everything has an end.”
Although the angel was explain rules, I wasn’t really listening since all I could think of was one question. “Okay... Can I ask something?” I say when the angel stopped speaking.
“Yup! Sure!” Masaki says with a bright smile.
“Will he die again?”
Just as Masaki was about to say something, Jun cut in. “We can’t tell you that. But I’m going to tell you to use your time wisely. ”
I nod and I watch them walk away. Masaki turns back around and waves while Jun just keeps walking ahead. I turn around and continue to the station, with my head almost bursting with the new information.
*** Hope some things are more clearer now. ^^ Next chapter will definitely be Ohmiya (yay!).
