Getting quite excited about upcoming Sleep & Dreams concert. Yeah I finally decided on a theme - sleep and dreams. In honour of many things

1. Sleep Deprivation studies by snowcanwait
2. Sleep Deprivation discoveries by pregnant and newly babied sister and general household
3. Nightmares and strange dreams associated with nasty breakup
4. The insomnia of travelling
5. General appreciation for sleep and dreams

At the risk, that is, of putting my audience to sleep. When you think about it, all the pieces are going to be tranquil and dreamy, right?

No... I've tried to put some different stuff in. Most if it is very sweet and lovely, but every now and then I interject with a song about death, or evil, or sleep deprivation.

Here's the programme: (not in order yet and will have to cull some out because of time restraints)

RESPIGHI: Crepuscolo
GURNEY: Sleep (beautiful song! Beautiful poem!)
GLANVILLE-HICKS - Come Sleep. (Same poem! Australian composer)
RONALD: O Lovely Night (very rousing and dramatic)
HANDEL: O sleep why dost thou leave me? (a bit angsty)
ELGAR: Pleading
HAHN: L'heure exquise ??? May have to cut for time
FAURE: Apres un reve
STRAUSS: Der Nachtgang ??? Haven't really taken to this one.
SAINT-SAENS: Mon coeur s'ouvre a ta voix (you can make anything fit a theme!)
BRITTEN: A Charm of Lullabies. Possibly the whole thing?
DE FALLA: Nana
SCHONBERG: I Dreamed a Dream

The Death Section
PURCELL: Now that the sun hath veiled its light (cull?)
MASSENET: Elegie
SCHUBERT: Der Tod und das Madchen

LIZST: O quand je dors
JUNCKER: I was Dreaming

I particularly like my "Death Section" and intend to keep all the death songs together :-)

Ideas, suggestions and comments appreciated! If you're going to suggest a piece that fits in with my theme - got anything in mind that's a little offbeat, dramatic, unusual? Ie. Not pretty and dreamy. Something about sleep deprivation. I wonder if Mad Bess was sleep deprived??
