So I decided that I can't be one of those people who criticize or make fun of a book/movie without reading/watching it so I jumped on the bandwagon and bought The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. In this post I'll write out amusing quotes/things I like/hate about the book as I read, so unless you hate spoilers or are planning on reading the book yourself, I wouldn't continue reading this. Everything I write will be under a spoiler cut so no worries about reading something you don't want to. I'll break it into sections of "quotes", "likes/dislikes" and "general comments" So...without further ado, The Hunger Games
Quotes
To preface this quote, I'll say that Katniss (protagonist, coal miner's daughter) and Peeta (protagonist, baker's son) are in group training and Peeta's learning camouflage.
"Don't be so superior. You can never tell what you'll find in the arena. Say it's actually a giant cake ---"
Likes/Dislikes
Katniss is a young 16 year old girl who has severe problems with her family and a lot of pent up frustration. She's critical of everything and reads a lot into emotions that don't exist or that she misreads. This is annoying but understandable, she grew up as the main provider after her father died. I find myself thinking "bitches be crazy" a lot and I'm only 1/4 into the book.
General Comments
At least so far it's ok. Slow at first though. I really didn't get into the world till after she goes to the Capitol. There wasn't enough to make me care that she volunteered as tribute. I like the characters in the Capitol though. Cinna's awesome so far.
Also, she's from Appalachia (or what once was) so it's kind of cool to think that her character is from somewhere close by. Granted those mountains range from the gulf up to Canada by way of New York so it could be anywhere in that area but it sounds like she's from the Virginia area.
