Album Review: Psycho le Cému ~ Prism

Jul 26, 2009 12:10

I've had the album for about a week now and figured I'd write something about it.
Yes, I know it was released 7 years ago and PLC hasn't been together for almost 4 years . . . I feel like it, and it's my journal, so Pbfft! :P
Anyway . . .

Artist: Psycho le Cému
Album:Prism (first press edition)
+Track one: Prism - Easily my favorite on this album. This was my first PLC song, so I have a certain attachment to it. The synths and ripping guitar really complement Daishi's unique vocal style. (by the way, I know the para para routine by heart . . . *is a dork*) 5 stars
+この星に願いを・・・ - This one is Ok . . . it kind of seems like a filler, but I like the addition of acoustic guitars for a softer feel. 3.5 stars
+Megatron - A return to PLC's usual Pop-rock style, the edgy drum machine and bass are balanced by a twangy synthesized noise, a spacey  voice, Lida's rap and the general feel that this song could fit into any action video game. 4.5 stars
+聖~excalibur~剣 (new mix) - This song's lead guitar intro is really catchy. Seriously. I didn't think so at first until I realized I was humming it in the woods at camp. I'll admit I was a bit bored by this track. The vocals and drums are typical PLC . . . maybe something a bit more adventurous in the chorus would improve it? 3.5 stars
+クロノス (Kronos, new mix) - Another solid song, with Aya's rougher counter-melody creating a nice polyphony that blends well with Lida's part and seek's plain rock bass style. 4 stars
+Remembrance - Touching. Upbeat yet melancholic. Ethereal. What else can be said about this brilliant finisher? Oh, not to mention it makes me cry 'cause it was the last song they played during their last live in 2006. When you're me, Sad song+Mega awesome band+knowing they're gone = sobfest. Memories and regrets aside, a nice song. 4.5 stars

-Credits-
Daishi - vocal
Lida - guitar
AYA - dance, guitar
seek - bass
Yura sama - dance, vocal, drum
. . .
PLC's style was catchy, thought provoking and dance-worthy. On this mini-album, they continued this successful combination. However, it stayed fairly consistent in these terms, while some variation would have made for a more enjoyably diverse listen.
~Total Album rating: 4 stars.~

Watch the aforementioned live below (WARNING: may induce bouts of hysteria, crying and/or utter confusion as to why the hell I'm so sensitivel)
