Dear Yuletide Author...

Dear Yuletide Author,

Hi! I'm Carly, AO3 name thecarlysutra, and you... well, you are one of my favorite people of the year! I love Yuletide, and I love stories, and I love you for participating and being my fanfiction hero.

Here's a little bit about my favorites and my triggers:

I love stories. I love stories about families and found families; I love stories about strong women. I love love; I love happy endings. Character-wise, I love virtuosos and characters that choose the right thing over the smart thing. And I love every fandom I've requested, so we have in common, dear Yuletide author, a fandom that we both hold dear.

I have a few triggers:

First (and this is not a trigger, only a request): Yuletide is my happy place, so I want happy endings. Angst is a fine genre, but for Yuletide I don't want to wallow.

Actual triggers: I am extremely sensitive to anything involving rape or non-con. I also trigger easily to anything about mental illness institutionalization; please no asylums.

That's pretty much it! I'm easy to please, generally. Now I'm going to talk a little bit more about my requests.

Thunderheart (1992)

Thunderheart is a 1992 movie about an FBI man with Indian blood going to a reservation to solve a murder. You can rent the movie on Amazon for $2.99 or own it for $6.99. It's no longer available anywhere for free, I believe.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH OMG. Unfortunately, very few people share my blind adoration; there are 102 Thunderheart stories on AO3, and I have written 84 of them. Yes. So that's a thing.

My favorite thing about this fandom is Ray and Crow Horse's relationship. They poke at each other, but deep down there's mutual respect and fondness. I ship them like crazy. I love domestic stories about the two of them; last year for Yuletide I got Ray/Crow Horse hurt/comfort and it blew my mind. I prefer post-film stories, and generally I prefer stories that aren't just, "what happened after Ray left the rez"; take me a little further into the future, when Ray's got his shit together.

Scrotal Recall (TV)

Scrotal Recall is a 2015 television series adopted as a "Netflix original" (even though it was created by and aired on Britain's Channel 4). The show, which you can watch in its entirety on Netflix (it's only six half-hour episodes, sad face), is about a group of three friends battling their way through dating life.

Scrotal Recall is, hands down, my favorite media find of 2015. It's a teeny bit of canon to work with, I know; the season's only got six episodes, and they're a half hour apiece. But I love it so much. I love how funny it is, and how clever, and--more than anything--the relationship between Dylan, Evie, and Luke. I would adore a story shipping Dylan/Evie, but I would also love a gen story about the three friends going on their little adventures. (I am also very interested in Luke's bucket list, if you need a prompt. I think that's my very favorite thing that's happened on the show.)

Saving Face (2004)

Saving Face is a 2004 movie about a lesbian Chinese doctor, her mother, and her girlfriend. You can watch it on Amazon for $2.99.

Saving Face, why so beautiful? The more I watch this movie, the more I appreciate it. The character interaction in all the relationships in this movie are top notch, but obviously I am so here for Wil/Vivian. I really crave stories about Wil and Vivian dealing with baby stuff, whether it's Ma's baby or one of their own.
