Well, you know I love your writing anyway. And there's so little really excellent B/A fic out there these days.
This has all the bells and whistles, but so much more, too. Great character interplay:
“Your hearts were in the right place!” Dawn said cheerfully. “I mean . . . well, okay, maybe things didn’t really turn out super, but it sounds like you had good intentions . . .”
“There’s a road paved with those,” Faith said. “Anyone remember where it leads?”
I loved the interplay between Faith and Dawn and Buffy.
This made me laugh out loud:
“You guys are so weird,” Connor said, grinning. “It’s kind of awesome.”
Dawn rolled her eyes. “Yeah, you can enjoy it now; it’s all new and interesting. At this end of it, it’s just annoying.”
But woven through this story is that ever-present, trademark Carly B/A angst. By the time I got to the end, I felt like you were squeezing my heart.
The whole post-Prom thing, just so beautiful and quiet:
She was the Slayer; when she said things like that, they had weight. People believed her.
Only he never had.
and so telling. Everything in the B/A story has so much more weight because we know the story, we know what's to come. The thought of them sitting on her porch on that night, the distance spreading out between them, Angel not knowing what to say, Buffy being the one to reassure him...just breaks my heart.
All of it, beautiful.
I'm going to snatch it for Sublime.
