You Learn Something Every Day

So today was the annual lecture honoring my buddy Werner Feig, my much-missed partner in assorted mischief, diet pepsi addict, former head of the history department, Aaron Sorkin's constitutional law teacher, and Holocaust survivor.

The speaker today was Dr. Ruth Westheimer. Before your minds go to the gutter, she was talking about her life, about being sent out of Germany as a child, losing her family in the camps, and making a life for herself as an orphan.

So what did I learn today? That this little woman, maybe five feet nothing, if that, was trained as a sniper. And was apparently a damn good one.

She mentioned that she lost her taste for any kind of firearms after Columbine, but she took one of her grandchildren to a carnival, played the water pistol booth and came home with 14 stuffed animals. Not bad for a woman in her 80s.

She was a hoot.
