(no subject)

somehow i've been watching a lot of tv politics the past couple of days. it began when i realized that my cable capacities extended past abc, nbc, cbs, upn, and telenovelas about wet nurses in the renaissance. then, i was a weary-eyed captive in two airports, where my only source of entertainment consisted of my i-pod, trying to focus in on the new yorker, and cnn. and now, i figure with the mississippi primary, i might as well tune in. well, it's been awhile, but here's what i've gathered from watching msnbc, cnn and fox news:

1. cnn should never, ever do a hollywood spotlight news segment. hats off to whomever booked michael musto because i might have lost more brain cells listening to a vehement tangent on sanjaya and paris hilton.

2. the play-by-play commentary of political shows resembles espn too much for my tastes. i miss euro news and bbc.

3. hill, srsly, stop. you're making me not want to vote for you anymore. stop sabotaging the naive and starry-eyed vision of the 90s clinton years i conjured in my brain.

4. amy pohler's snl skit was awesome. i can thank cnn for showing it, because i stopped watching snl about 10 years ago.

5. madam heidi fleiss's "expertise" on prostitution to an msnbc interviewer was amazing. any question posed to her about the subject of prostitution was greeted with a heavy sigh and an irritated voice that screamed, "duh."

6. speaking of prostitution, every time a politician is caught in some scandal with a hussy, the world seems to end. just legalize prostitution. the only slap across the face eliot spitzer should receive is from his wife. if we're to scrutinize a politician for screwing a hooker, it should be for hypocrisy, not moral degradation. and given how often these "scandals" happen, they might as well legalize prostitution so it can be properly regulated and sex workers can have occupational benefits and rights.

7. a lot of people seem to die all over the world. it's really sad.

8. the prison system is really sad too. i saw like 3 segments in a row about the prison system, like that one guy who lawyers knew was innocent for 30-something years but couldn't say anything because of attorney-client privilege but somehow managed to get permission before the real perpetrator's death, which saved this guy from death row but he's still locked up because he has to await a new trial 30 years after the fact. sad shit right there.

9. i still hate bill o'reilly, but i totally agree with him that what angelina jolie does with her life is no one's damn business and none of us actually know this woman.

10. i'm in new jersey and i'll update that other blog.
