a better version of me

why is it americans as a whole are never satisfied? in the midst of our pining for the brass ring just ahead & longing for days gone by we find ourselves in the moment. the problem with the moment is often times we underestimate it's value until it's gone. we spend so much of our lives worrying about our entitlements that we miss out on so many great things all around us. we live in a perpetual state of tunnel vision & as trite as it may sound we really can't see the forest through the trees. or, more aptly put, we can't see our lives through our aspirations & disappointments. to quote fiona apple - "i am likely to miss the main event, if i stop to cry & complain again." & that's just it - the past is gone, never to return. & the future can be, for now, whatever we imagine it to be; until we wake up one morning realizing we'd spent so much time dreaming we were never really awake to begin with. so here i am. no longer a victim of my past nor a guest who's overstayed his welcome. & certainly not one who's given up on his dreams, i'm just enjoying the process more. & this is it - a better version of me.
