It's an event that pales in comparison to the tragedy currently striking our nation, but as most of you have probably heard, there was in incident in a Carlton intra-club match wherein Setanta O'hAilpin struck and kicked Cameron Cloke. As there were umpires present at the match, it was taken to the tribunal. As a result, Setanta was suspended for 4 weeks - a level 2 striking charge and a level 2 kicking charge. Carlton have accepted the penalty. He became the first player in history suspended for hitting his own team mate, and the first player to be suspended this year. The suspension does not include the NAB Cup and will begin in the Home and Away season.
But it isn't over for Setanta. He has been indefinitely suspended by the club, and they have not ruled out firing him. He, as well as the rest of us, will know his fate by Friday.
I sincerely hope each and every one of you are safe and as unscathed by these bushfires as possible.
