Carlton's finals campaign finally came to an end today after a convincing win by the Roos at the Telstra Dome this afternoon.
North Melbourne 5.2 (32) | 13.5 (83) | 17.8 (110) | 22.9 (141)
defeated
Carlton 6.2 (38) | 9.3 (57) | 10.5 (65) | 14.6 (90)
It was an exciting start to the match, a first quarter shootout seeing both teams neck-and-neck, yet Carlton clearly getting the better of it. Brendan kicked the first two goals within 3 minutes and looked to be right on song, much unlike the inaccurate openings of the last few games. Indeed, the whole side looked as such, the inaccuracy that made last weeks game so dismal looking to be a thing of the past.
But once the second term started it was all she wrote, North Melbourne hitting the gas to eventually become 51-point victors. In said term the fire that had been displayed so eloquently in our football spilled outwards emotionally, resulting in 4 successive 50 metre penalties in a matter of minutes; the first two resulting in a goal, the last two a lucky out of bounds on the full. 3 of them came from Fevola, although the first two a result of some confusion. After that, tempers flared and both Fevola and The Chief may see themselves in trouble with the tribunal.
The game puts us mathematically out of the race for the top 8, though perhaps we've realistically been out of that race for a few weeks though. Our boys will have to wait til next year to play finals. And for the first time in a long time, there comes the sense that perhaps that day isn't too far away.
