Great news! The Northern Bullants defeated Frankston yesterday in 1st semi-final.
Final Scores:
NORTHERN BULLANTS 3.2 8.4 10.6 15.10 (100)
FRANKSTON 2.5 5.7 9.12 11.15 (81)
Thank goodness it was televised. Thinks were looking scary at three-quarter time, when things were all level. But with Frankston kicking into the breeze, the Ants with fresher legs and two quick goals to us the impending heart attack eased off. Then Livo was knocked out by a case of friendly fire and while he was still on the ground his opponent, Jake Edwards, marked and kicked his 100th goal for the season. Cue the Frankston faithful running onto the ground, as well as a streaker. Ew.
But even with the dominating Luke Livingston being taken off to hospital, the Ants stood firm and sealed the game.
Setenta O'hAilpin, who it appears has dicovered his left foot, was named man of the match (and given the most dismal 'trophy' I've ever seen :|).
Next week will see us take on Sandringham, whom we beat last time we faced by a mere 3 points after a last-quarter comeback by them in a heavy downpour of rain. No second chances anymore. From here on in it's do or die.
On to Carlton news. We have two changes to our coaching staff; Tony Elshaug and Peter Mulkearns will not be with us in '07.
"The decision not to renew their roles with Carlton going forward was made in view of the Board's desire to alter the make up of the coaching panel as part of the Club's vision for the next 3 to 5 years. Tony and Peter have provided wonderful service and expertise to the Carlton Football Club and the decision is not a reflection on their performance, it is the result of the decision to change the structure of the Carlton coaching panel," said Carlton CEO, Michael Malouf
I think it will be interesting to see if Barry Mitchell lasts til then, as well, after presenting the Carlton board with reasons why they should get rid of Pagan mere hours before the board decided to keep him.
If he coaches the Ants to their first Premiership in 22 years he may just save himself.
Sticks has taken a swipe at the media, after a week where we've dominated headlines, despite the fact that our season is over. I love the fact that he stood up for Pagan publicly, considering all the lies in the media of late that the two were at odds with one another.
And one very memorable quote, right here:
"I enjoy watching our blokes play and I know the Carlton faithful do, that's why we're here and tonight it's not about who was in the press this week and who back-stabbed or lied," he said.
"It's about all of us together, and to the players, we've had a whack but I've had some good days here and some bad days."
"Worse sides can really struggle but we've got the makings to become a great side in the next couple of years."
In fact, the media have had several swipes in their direction after reporting things such as the AFL intervened in Carlton's decision to get rid of Pagan. Geez those bloke love a good headline with which they can bury the facts.
