Death Statistics

I find it remarkable that in the US every year, there are consistently over 8 times more deaths caused directly by doctors screwing up than there are from firearms.
But there is constantly legislation in process trying to convince us that getting a gun should be harder and going to the doctor should be easier...

Doctors: 250,000 deaths per year from iatrogenic causes (12,000 -- unnecessary surgery; 7,000 -- medication errors in hospitals; 20,000 -- other errors in hospitals; 80,000 -- infections in hospitals; 106,000 -- non-error, negative effects ...of drugs.)(Journal American Medical Association July 26, 2000;284(4):483-5)

Firearms: 31,719 USA (2001) Homicide; 12,304 Suicide; 18,302 Other (inc accident); 1,112 (Data taken from Cukier and Sidel (2006) The Global Gun Epidemic. Praeger Security International. Westport.)
