I am writing this to help every one out there stay safe. This is in no way any kind of pity party message.
Last night in Houston TX, my girl friend, Shana and I were club hopping at our normal spots with friends.
at our second location, Rich's,three guys jumped my girl friend in the unisex bathroom. It was very traumatic for her.
The following is her written notes and descriptions of attackers that I asked her to write when we got home, after the dust settled. I saked this of her in an effort to help her and all of you prevent any more attacks.
She said it was theraputic for her to write it and get it all out.
----------------------------
"7-7-6
1. Instigator- male
Asian-Vietnamese
Light coloured shirt
Long sleeve
Rolled Cuffs to elbow
Maybe Paisley (95% sure)
Jeans 90% sure
Short Hair
Hieght between 5'-6" to 5'-8" (97% sure)
Wieght about 130 lb.s
2. The two friends
both male
Not black
Not Middle Eastern
One guy taller than 5'-10"
Place
Women's (unisex) bathroom downstairs by the dancefloor.
The Attack
1. Someone opened the door to the (handicap) stall as I was about to come out. I told them I would be out in a second. They knew I was alone in the bathroom. When I opened the door, the instigator came towards me. He was turning the knob at the same time and vulgarly approached me.
2. He lunged for my chest at my top. He told me he would undress me. One friend sitting on the counter jumped down. The other ones was standing and walked towards me. The instigator told me he wanted to undress me, and lunged for my chest after trying to rub his penis on me when he had blocked my stall exit.
3. They tried to corner me into the stall I had come from. I positioned myself against a wall left of the stall and facing the hand dryer. Close to the door. I said 'I am going to find my boyfreind, he is waiting for me'
I got to the doorway and said again, 'I am going to find my boyfreind, he is waiting for me'. I turned and walked out to the dance floor.
---------------------------------------------------
Rich's is a great place. This is not thier fault, in fact, they have been as helpfull as possible. We will be back in a week or two depending on our scheduels.
This is not my girlfriend's fault. She was not drunk or on any drugs, nor does it matter if she was.
Noone should ever be forced into any sexual act of any kind against his or her will for any reason. EVER!!!!!!!
I don't claim to be an expert but the good things she did were:
stayed calm
showed no fear
determination to prevent worse attacking and escape
silently thought of an escape
positioned and moved increasing her chances of escape
executed that escape
things to work on
don't go to bathroom alone
maybe she should have run to nearest bar tendender/ staff and yell she had just been attacked
to expose the fleeing offenders and show others what they looked like
tell anyone esp people you know asap
tell them directly and dont asssume they know when they walk up to your converstaion in progress
too easy to think its just a converstation, too loud to hear a buddy yelling your ear much less your converstation 12"
away
I will be working with her on inmproving prevention and emergency tactics.
1. Among the prevention women always go to bathroom in 1 or more packs. Safety in numbers.
unitl now Shana thought this was silly. Now she sees it's importance.
2.If the club is unisex then take guys or girls in your pack.
3. If the bathrooms are not unisex and your girls are not there, thne take your guy or guy friends to the bathroom
door and back to your area.
4. consider mace in your pocket or on you no in your purse that is in the car trunk or far away.
I am checking in to this one now
5. consider self defense class and or brushing up and a martial art you had classes on.
6. read and listen to prevention on this topic from psa, cops , and friends.
I did not write this to be dramatic or seek pitty for either of us. Instead, I only want to help everyone remember to be carefull. It's easy to let your guard down in a club that you've been going to for years.
Live in confidence. Prevent what you can. Enjoy life.
Take care. Have a good safe night tonight and every night whereever you go.
Please feel free to fwd this to any one it may help.
