Good God, what a week.
First I got bronchitis, which I thought would be the worst part of the week. Boy was I wrong.
Friday my laptop wouldn't turn on. I had a paper due at 230pm and a paper due Monday with a presentation. I took it to the computer store where I was informed that it was the motherboard. Lovely. Luckily, I have a fantastic father who bought me a new one, with a new printer and I was good to go at 7pm at night.
Last night, all hell broke loose at my house. First, some background. My landlord's odd, very odd. She has ridiculous rules like noone that lives here is allowed to answer the phone except her. Noone's allowed to use the upstairs bathroom etc. Anyways, I'm on the phone with my uncle and she picks up and says "Hello?" "Who's on the phone" I reply "Carly" she says "How long have you been on the phone?" I answer "A few minutes" she says "My mom's trying to call, I need to talk to her, I need the phone" I reply "Fine, I'll get off." She hangs up and TWO SECONDS later picks up again.
So I go downstairs afterwards and she says "You need to clean up your dish" (There's one plate on the counter) I say "Okay. I didn't realize one dish was a big deal considering there are other dishes all over the counter." She replies "Well it is. Clean it up. I'm asking you as your friend." I clean the dish, put it away and reply "You're my landlord, not my friend." I leave and go up to my room.
Two minutes later she comes upstairs...the conversation goes something like this; (M:Me, L:landlord, La:Lauren-one of my roommates)
L:Carly?
M:What?
L:Is there a problem?
M:Yes, there's a problem. When you pick up the phone and I'm on it can you just tell me you need the phone and hang up and wait for me to get off? When theres someone on the line with me I don't need to have a whole conversation with you.
L:I didn't know you were on the phone. I thought you were dialing.
M:Clearly I wasn't dialing. Did you hear dialing? It's easy, just tell me you need the phone and I'll get off. Just give me a chance to get off.
L:You can't tell me I can't have a conversation in my own house!
M:I'm not asking you not to talk to me. I'm saying please don't have a whole conversation with me while I'm clearly on the phone.
L:How about you just ask to use the phone when I'm home?
M:Uh, no! I pay you $350 to live here. I'm not asking you to use the phone.
L:Fine, if you're going to be like this, I can't live with you. I'll deal with this my own way.
M:Don't threaten me.
L:I'm calling the police.
M:Do whatever the hell you want. I could care less.
Lauren comes upstairs at this point cause she can hear the yelling. She tries to help, but things just get worse. As Lauren comes upstairs to talk to me Michele tells her that's shes not allowed on the stairs because she only pays for her room, the kitchen and the bathroom. We leave to get a lock for my door since we know shes been in and out of peoples rooms taking things.
We come back and are installing the lock, and Michele comes upstairs.
L:You can't put a lock on your door
M:Yes, I can. I know you've been in other peoples rooms. I have valuables, it needs to be locked.
L:Well, the police are on their way
M:You called the police on me?! Oh yeah, the two big scary university girls.
L:I called them to protect me.
M:That's messed up. Well, if you want to involve the police stop talking to me and go wait for them.
The argument continues back and forth. She threatens to give both of us notice a bunch of times. Eventually she goes downstairs to wait for the police. The police show up, talk to her, tell her that everything we've done we're allowed to do and leave.
My aunt and uncle came and picked me up shortly after. As I'm leaving, clearly because of her she says to me "Is everything okay Carly? Have you got everything you need? All your books?" I just kept silent but I felt like saying "No you crazy fucking bitch! It's not okay! Does it look like everything's okay?!?!"
I talked to my dad today and he wants me out as soon as possible. I looked at a place with a friend of Cheryls today and it looks promising. I can move in whenever I want. My dad's going to lose about $350 but this place just isn't safe.
So my door's locked and it will always be locked from now on cause frankly I have no idea what she'll do.
