Fencing journal

So today was the 3rd day of fencing classes at LCC for me.  I'm taking the classes for several reasons and one of the 2 classes I'm taking requires that I keep a journal.  Instructor will want it in an exam book by the midpoint of the semester however I'm terrible at writing by hand, so I'll keep the journal here and transcribe the important bits to that one.  Let me back up to the first week to get caught up.

Tuesday, Jan 10th
First day of class we did footwork drills, and stretched, and I was tired and sore.  The footwork wasn't much, but it showed me just how sedentary I've been.

Thursday, Jan 12th
Second day of class, more stretching, more exercising, and more footwork drills.  Going over the basics again as a refresher. Ended up very sore after the class and through the weekend.  My back injury was really making it difficult.

Tuesday, Jan 17th
Today we did more drills, and my endurance is terrible.  I'm still having trouble with flexibility, but that's the story of my life.  I find that my hip flexors are really tired and sore so I'll have to stretch those better in the classes to come.  A comment made to me is making me think though, and the comment was something like: "You're the strongest fencer in the class."  Which made me step back to examine why I'm in the class.  So here's what I'm in it for.  First for the fitness.  I'm out of shape, and want to get back in shape for fencing.  Also I want to recheck the basics so I can evaluate my fencing to see if there's anything I could be doing better.  Along that line, I've decided to in some ways deconstruct my fencing.  No more using the thoughts "I've always done it this other way" as a crutch not to take a good look at my fencing.  I've already found that when we have open bouting I fall back into the same fencing I've done for years.  To stop that I'll be slowing down my fencing to use specifically the things we're learning in the class, in the best way I can do them. It may also help my stamina by slowing down.
