Repost-age

Due to lack of output lately (last...two or three years now?), just decided to repost this from somewhere else I posted it on the Interwebs (Facebook). Apologies to the few people who'll read this twice.

Think of 25 albums that had such a profound effect on you they changed your life or the way you looked at it. They sucked you in and took you over for days, weeks, months, years. These are the albums that you can use to identify time, places, people, emotions. These are the albums that no matter what they were thought of musically shaped your world.

***No being cool, which albums have you actually listened to thousands of times?

1. The Velvet Underground & Nico - S/T. First off-the-beaten-track album I ever listened to. I heard a few tracks off of some Lou Reed Best Of... shit I checked out of the library and it was love at first listen.

2. Various Artists - The Beverly Hills Cop Soundtrack. One of the first albums I asked my family to buy me on cassette tape, fostered a love for Shalamar that continues to this day.

3. Rudimentary Peni - The EPS of RP. Could listen to this all day everyday.

4. Dr Dre - The Chronic. Whenever people put on their profiles on personals ads 'I like everything but country and rap' I don't understand why they don't append that with 'EXCEPT THE MOTHERFUCKING CHRONIC'

5. Bauhaus - In The Flat Field. One of the few albums I ever burnt myself on. Listened to it a bajillion times in the past but not sure I could ever listen to it again. Still I USED to listen to it a thousand times.

6. Otis Redding - Everything he's ever released ever because he was a God among men.

7. Black Flag - The First Four Years. Pre-Henry Rollins Black Flag was the tops.

8. Screeching Weasel - Boogada Boogada Boogada! Why do I no longer own this album? :|

9. Santana - S/T Debut (the one with Soul Sacrifice). First record I ever bought for TWENTY FIVE CENTS. Its not THAT great but I'll pick it out of my collection now and again and curse its name for it starting what became an expensive habit.

10. The Temptations - Just My Imagination (Runnin' Away With Me) [Single]. My favorite song of all time. If you get a couple drinks in me and ask me about the qualities of this song, its possible I'll go on an hour long description about every single note of this song and why its absolutely perfect.

11. E.L.O. - A New World Record. Even if you detest pop music, I think not liking this album is like not liking blowjobs or mexican food.

12. Elvis Costello - My Aim Is True. Get me drunk enough at a karaoke bar and I may decide to kill you with my version of 'Alison.'

13. Can - Tago Mago. Probably one of the most pretentious album I'll ever own up to loving EXCEPT FOR:

14. Throbbing Gristle = 20 Jazz Funk Greats. Helped get me into that phase where all I'd listen to was hardcore punk and noise music. Sorry for that guys :|

15. Boredoms - Super æ. The only thing that could make this album is hallucinogens. Saw them live once and it was an experience.

16. Jamie Lidell - Multiplicity. I remember me and my friends all discovered this dude at once and we were all girly over the awesomness of this guy. This needs to happen again.

17. Fear - The Record. I still have this on cassette tape. I've just never bothered to buy another copy for some reason.

18. The Rolling Stones - Everything before Brian Jones died. Shit was great.

19. Four Seasons - Dawn (Go Away) [Single]. I've basically told people this because I think I'm an emotional wreck.

20. Fugazi - End Hits. Way underrated, made my poor friend Sam listen to this countless times on a road trip to visit my father.

21. Grandaddy - The Sophtware Slump. As great as this album is, I've always felt the title is retarded. Ah well.

22. The Stone Roses - S/T. I have nothing to say about this album :|

23. Alice in Chains - Facelift. Alice in Chains at its most buttrock. I remember my friends back in the day used to judge me for loving this album and I'm still puzzled about that.

24. The Jesus And Marychain - Psychocandy. Listened to this nonstop after my second boyfriend broke up with me.

25. Aretha Franklin - I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You. So many great songs. I'd go listen to it right now but there's some chick asleep on the couch :O
