Dear lovely peoples,

What fun we have had since I last wrote! Here are some little blurbs.

Did I ever mention to y'all that we moved to a lovely 2 bedroom apartment in Sherman Oaks? It is in "The Valley" and is 1/2 way commute wise between my job and David's post-doc at UCLA.

David is enjoying deciding what research he will focus on and is now about ready to submit the paper that contains the work from his thesis.

The school year has been going very well and the school itself is steady and headed in a good direction. Unfortunately I still have some side effects from all the craziness of ~ 2 years ago. During that time all the old primary (preschool) students left so I haven't had the proper number of younger students coming into my class. A class of 8 may sound just awesome but in Montessori it is a real struggle to keep things on the right track. However despite this challenge I have been having a really great year with my students and we have been getting into all sorts of interesting work.

On the play side of things we had a super duper Guy Fawkes day. So close to the election we had a lot of political effigies. We used our apartment complex's rec room! yee haa

In November we went on an amazing trip to Austria. We went because they were putting a plaque up in my Grandmother's old school and the Austrian government decided to take the chance to apologize for the holocaust. My grandmother gave a really moving speech. You can see the text and pictures here. http://www.recognitionscience.com/personal/austriaweb/

In DecemberI turned 30! Woo hoo! I had a totally awesome birthday party- we decorated cupcakes and made shrinky dinks. My friend Bethany from college flew out for it and I had a really great time.

Finally we really enjoyed the holidays (Despite my head cold that wouldn't die) at my Law in-laws house in Blacksburg. The icing on the cake was my own folks making it down from Vermont to spend time with us.(David and his sister Jenny and mother Clare)

So that is a bit of the life of Sarah and David. We both wish you a very happy new year and look forward to seeing you in person!

Sarah
