Apart from Bangkok in April this year, which doesn't count as it was just a short regional holiday, this has got to be the most relaxed holiday I've taken in the past 4 years.
The last few times I went overseas have all been to the States. Since the journey there is such an investment in terms of money and time, I always want to get the most out of my holiday. So I do loads and loads of online research, and discover where the best places are to go in those cities. Last December's trip to Orlando ranked amongst the most stressful, I think. I was planning meals in WDW as early as 2 months in advance, only to find out when I called, that other holidaymakers had planned their trips 6 months in advance....
Up to 2 days ago, I was still busy with my scrapping, altering, plans for friend's wedding, up to the point when hubby remarked that I didn't seem to be making any plans for this holiday -- where was the detailed itinerary that he'd seen me do for all the previous trips? I was a bit taken aback, and realized that what he said was true -- I had not made any plans!
That said, I spent yesterday and today with a computer, and have come up with a list of places to go. Not as many as I had for places like Chicago, New York and Orlando, but enough to make me feel that I DO have a plan. It's then I realized that hey, I think I know why.
My free and easy holidays started in Australia, when we went for our honeymoon. At that time, Australia wasn't very internet savvy as a whole, and any information on our shopping trips comprised what we could find in the Australian White Pages coupled with judicious use of the street directory. Touristy stuff came from the guidebooks. And so the pattern formed, and now, whenever I go Down Under, I think, whatever I need to find can be found there once I get hold of a White Pages and a street directory. And we'll just wing it.
Or perhaps it's just my new relaxed self speaking, emerging from the stressed out triple A+ personality I'd hidden it in.
