I've finished a first cutting of Shrew, which I'm pretty happy with.  So now I'm digging into the research (which is constantly making me second guess my cutting).
Kit (our dramaturg) gave me a stack of books (already flagged, hooray!) to add to my own stack, and I have tasked myself the goal of working through two books a day.

I also need to go through the script for punctuation (those online versions always have the crappiest punctuation choices), but then it will be ready for dissemination.  Excellent.

I just read this in Ms. Directing Shakespeare:

"A woman directing The Taming of the Shrew, whoever she is, might as well get a loaded shotgun and put it against her temple, because half the critics will be disappointed and will criticizeit if the view of the play is not radical and feminist because they expect that from a woman; then the other half will shoot you down in flames because you're doing a feminist, 'limited' view of a play which is meant to be about the surrender of love.  So you CANNOT possibly win.  You're absolutely fucked." - Gale Edwards.

Bring it.
