Interesting site someone just sent me a link to: Zillow.com, which is a house-value estimator. Rather than guessing based on assessed value (which generally bears very little resemblance to market value), they look at other prices in the area, and have some set of calculations that lets them guess based on..... something else ( Read more... )

Our real estate agent does very much the same thing. Every month or so, she sends her clients a list of houses in the area, complete with size and style (3br, 2.5bath colonial, etc) and the selling value. She may even include whether it sold above or below asking price. I can't quite recall.

Not accurate for mobile homes where you don't own the land. But oh, how I wish it were!
