so, tis been a while, hasn't it?
so bonnaroo was AMAZINGLY FUN!!! the ride there and back... not so much. (go to my webshots site to see pictures!)
2 hours into our trip, we got pulled over by the cops for speeding. to make a one and a half hour story very short, we almost got arrested because our car smelled like pot (it was a rental car, the overpowering pot smell was from a previous driver). It took 3 cop cars, including a K-9 unit, to search us, and then finally believe us. They were super suspicious of Mike, poor sweetie! Just because he's tall and has a beard does NOT mean that he has a previous criminal record!!! Oh, one cop also said that his dog could rip us to shreds. It was great.
So after that adventure, we drove for another 18 hours and arrived in Nashville in the early evening. On our car ride, we stopped at a Sonic (yay, so goood!) and a gas station and a McDonald's. We stopped at the Tennessee Welcome Center and rejiced at our arrival, despite how super tired we were. there are lots of things to do in good ol' TN!
Anyway, Nashville. We stayed at the Fiddler's Inn, a couple blocks away from the Grand Ol' Opry. It had a pool, which we utilized and loved. We found a frog in that pool. Mike and I also met some nice English gentlemen. We went to dinner at The Aquarium, a restaraunt filled with... you guessed it... giant aquariums. I was so tired I almost fell asleep in my lobster bisque. Then we went to the Gibson store and I tried to play a couple of guitars, a violin, a mandolin, and a bajo. Banjos are heavy as all heck. Then we went to the Gibson bar and saw some wonderful wonderful jam bands. They just got up there and played. All these random people, gathering to play!! They brought out their instruments... they were all amazing. harmonicas, bass, voice, guitar, drums... This on 16 year old had better chops than any drummer I've ever seen live before. It was amazing, probably one of the best shows I saw in all my time in TN. But I was so tired I fell asleep in the bar, so Mike took me back to the hotel and I passed out. Zzz.
Next day we wandered around Nashville. Ate food. Shopped for souveniers. I really like that city, it's just plain fun!
Again, I crashed.
Then we got up early to travel to BONNAROOOOOOO! We drove and finally we got there and had to wait n a super long line of cars to get in. Hippies EVERYWHERE! I've never seen such a conglomeration of such INTERESTING people. Hash men came around to our tent selling hash. our neighbors were obsessed with Tom Petty. A 'shroom man came around with a bag of 'shrooms and asked us if we wanted any. Pot was everywhere. It seemed to be the dominate motif of our trip.
But anywho, long line of cars. So I had to pee pretty badly. Like, probably the worst of my life. I got grumpy and couldn't talk to anyone for fear I would explode, I had to pee so bad. Finally, I saw some port-o-potties (which I became inimately familiar with over the next few days), and ran out of the car to pee in them. But there was a guy sitting by them that said "You can't use those." I said, "Please sir, it's an emergency." He said "No one's using my port-o-potties, cuz then all these other cars will want to use them!" So I had to pee in a bush. Mean man. The only mean person we met in TN. Besides a 'shroom guy who got mad at me and Mike for ignoring him.
So we set up camp. Two tents, a shade cover thing, and a bright orange kiddie pool! The pool never got filled with water. But it was so comfy to sit in! Mike and I slept in it one night. Aboodi and Mike cuddled in it (with a digereedoo in between them... giggling like two school boys they were, with their pillow talk). It was our friend!
P.S. Aboodi and Brent met us there on Friday, they flew down. Matt and Carlene camped at another campsite, but we met up with them for pancakes and Beck and Radiohead.
Anywho, the first night we saw naked men hanging from scaffolding. And a guy who looked like he was dead. And the Cat Empire, who I enjoyed immensely.
OK that's enough for this update. I'll explain the following days later. When I feel like it.
Toodles!
