Playa trip
Instead of a long narrative, I'm going to describe my trip with an outline.
- Basic facts
- I thought Playa was near LA, but it turned out to be only 5 minutes from LAX
- Hotel is nice, being an Embassy Suites
- Free happy hour from 5:30 to 7:30
- Free breakfast from 6:00 to 9:30
- Two separate rooms
- Two beds in bedroom
- Couch with foldout bed in other room
- Day one, Wednesday
- Woke up at 4:30, left by 4:50, and got to the Playa gate by 6:15
- Went to hotel and tried to check in, but the room wasn't ready (it was a reservation for that night)
- Should have got breakfast but instead explored the streets
- Got back to Playa and found the trailers by 7:00
- Tried to check in again at 9:00 and once again failed
- Made most of the cables and got the network up
- Didn't have an internet connection until 1/2 hour before gohometime
- Only had one drink during happy hour -- drinking alone is weird
- Fell asleep very early (by 7:30 perhaps)
- Another SRI employee (Ben Goodwin) arrived at around 11:00 and slept in the other bed
- Day two, Thursday
- Woke up at 5:30, showered, had breakfast, and got to Playa by 6:50
- Buttoned up cabling to Steve's office
- Left at 11:00, got home by 12:15 (even after picking up some fast food for lunch)
